Peugeot Boxer L3H2
Hi, just bought a L3H2 Boxer to convert to campervan. Thought it would be fine to park on the street outside our flat (Lambeth, London) with a Residents Parking Permit but...the maximum height for the permit is 2.3m and max length is 5.5m (Boxer is 2.5m high, 6m long). Does anyone know any way around this, so that we can get to legitimately park on our street???

Thanks, all advice very welcome!

…which is the same for a ‘Trader’s Parking Permit’, I believe….?
Have you spoken to Lambeth Council about this? I suspect that there will be no easy way to resolve this issue……and is your vehicle ULEZ compliant too…..?

I think you are going to struggle. We have the size limitation as well but also has to be registered as a car.

How do some of the long estate car/people carrier owners overcome this problem, some of them must be over 5.5.
I'm sure my Renault Grand Espace must have been? 🤔

I'm confused, Is that the MK2 GRAND Espace made by Matra for Renault, because I find my 6m Murvi just about fits in the same marked out space as the Grand Espace I owned?
Remember, the Grand Espace is, at least, about a foot longer than the ordinary Espace? 🤔

Sorry! Just managed to look up this vehicle (I will get the hang of these new smart phones one day, they DO assure me) and it states that the petrol version was 4510mm long. I had the 2.2 diesel, I would have put money on being right and I'm not a betting man? 🤔

Cheers everyone, haven't had a chance to speak to council yet but will be giving them a call first thing Monday.

It's 2018 Boxer and ULEZ compliant, for info.

Reason we didn't think it would be a problem is that there are three other big white delivery vans that park near us, same size...yes, we should've checked it all out before buying.

Not home at the mo, have come up north to collect the van to drive back tomorrow...

We're getting in touch with one of he local van owners to see what they do.

Has anyone heard of any exemption type things for a residents parking permit?? Just a thought. I know there's disabled blue badges, anyone heard of an exemption for 6m van for any other reason?

We are Greenwich council
Same rules

I just described our van as a Mercedes Sprinter and have a permit, no problem (although it spends most of the time in storage and we have a car)
Same applies to guy down the road with a Fiat Ducatto based van

I think I'd just be inclined to apply for the pass and see what happens, as you say man with white van have got to park somewhere, and the roads of London are littered with white vans!

If you have a car as well, in Greenwich we can list two vehicles, as long as only one is actually parked at a time.
It means we have a big cardboard label on the 'non' set of keys so we remember to go on line and swap the registrations each time the van comes into London and the car goes into the storage place.

Thanks Brains. When we put our number plate into the online form it came up with a warning about the max length and height but we could still continue with the application. If we did continue and they gave a permit, wouldn't the traffic wardens spot straight away the van is longer and higher than it should be and slap on a ticket?

It may depend on the road

It may be a 'catch all', so that if the van is obviously too big, they can rescind the permit.
If however the road is big enough, and no one complains, then it's not a problem.

That Series 3 was probably the best car I've ever had and that includes the Mercs I've had since. Demo model from 2000 and I only sold it in 2021 (for £300). :( I'm surprised at learning the length was shorter than my current car, I'd buy one again if they were still around of a decent age.

Yes they would in my experience

Yes they would in my experience
But not in mine.

As above, I think they have a level of discretion, if the road is big enough, and some around me you could park HGV's side by side and still get a bus through, then a van is not an issue.
Other roads really are not suitable for even modern sized cars.

Harsh as it may be I have a solution to your problem.

Forget London and discover like so many of us that there is nothing scary about living beyond the M25.
.... and halve your quality of life.

Interesting Facts:
GDP in London area is £56,000
GDP in rest of UK, minus London is £32,000.
London provides over 25% of the entire UK economy despite containing under 15% of the population.

I've lived in Hong Kong, New York, Hamburg and Athens. I was bought up in Cornwall, Sussex and Kent, but I've spent most of my life in London. After semi-retiring we sat down and decided despite owning a house by the sea in Kent, we would rather remain living in London most of the year.

Depends how you define quality of life. I cannot imagine anything I'd want in a city. I've been to London twice (plus numerous 2h visits for works meetings that don't count). It's more than 25 years since my last visit.

It's town mouse and country mouse. We lived in London for a few years before moving towards civilisation and finally arriving there 4 years ago on the north Yorkshire coast. What suits one person luckily doesn't suit us all but I wouldn't like to move there no matter how much the economic advantage ( were retired now so it doesn't really apply anyway). I can walk on the beach or in the north Yorkshire moors national park in 10 minutes or 2 respectively. We have a boat moored in the marina lots of music things to participate in local music and a brewery. Out of season hardly any traffic etc lots of new friends a nice low key existence. Swap it for a big city and traffic jams no thanks.

I know what you mean. Only takes one person to complain though and the discretion is worthless.

Well you now qualify for a minority person so either have a riot or block the roads as nothing else seems to have an affect on the idiots in charge🤣
