I'm new and nervous but very excited!
Does anyone know of a campervan with a U shaped lounge with opening doors and large garage underneath like in the photo attached which I spotted at Manchester Central Show yesterday - the one in the photo is a conversion but wondering if this layout is also available off the shelf - I can't find any - looking to compare prices TIA

That looks like a Consort Oslo? panel van conversion which is one of the models they do,as do most of the PVC convertors,Vantage,IH etc.

I’m pretty sure Autotrail do one, a V line I think, but it has a horizontal door for the storage space and a very large window above it which I’m not sure if it can also open as a door from the top hinge. My mate had one, it was very nice

There are some commercially available as outlined above:
Devon Aztec XL, S&L Apollo, IH 630, Consort Oslo S2, Vantage EOS, maybe others as well.

If it's a U-Shaped lounge it's impossible to have a very big 'garage' underneath. At best it's a large-ish storage bin which you can access from the back. You won't get anything worth calling a 'garage' unless you go the fixed rear bed route.

Ih do one
I've always thought of IH as doing high spec and innovative vans. Am I the only one who thinks this particular one looks very dated? It's a nice layout, but the two-tone, and the colours/materials chosen all look more reminiscent of a family members 20yo Auto-Sleeper than a contemporary conversion.

Agree, the inlaid panel style and colours are very marmite IMHO.

It looks like the rear of our IH630RD, opens all the way across the back and then the left hand bed as you’re looking at the boot opens up all the way down into it. Fits a Quest pop-up! The Vantage and Consort had something on the right hand side of the boot from memory when we looked which meant you lost boot space. They may have changed it.

The overhead cupboards don’t look like IH ones, the overcab storage doesn’t look like IH as there’s no nice door to make it tidy. The TV isn’t in a nice IH cupboard either.

As you may have guessed we like IH vans!

If a big "garage" is a priority then a read bed is a better option. The seats in a U-Shaped lounge cannot be as high as a bed and this impacts garage space/

Of the ones I mentioned, some put the U part of the seats back against the barn doors, and others - such as the Devon Aztec XL in the attached image - bring the seat away from the doors to provide a bigger boot, and put a removable shelf across the top.
One option gives extra space in the van, the other option gives extra storage.

I've just gone back and had another look the ih logo is only on the driver and passenger seats. If it was custom maybe the first owner stipulated no advertising all over the van cupboards and cushions ?
As I'll never commission a van I have to like it or lump it but would rather do without it. The logo

That's definitely a Consort Oslo, also they do a Reef xl which has a larger garage. Consort and Vantage are both in Leeds and you're in Yorkshire maybe arrange a factory visit. Vantage are similar layout and were once owned by the owners of Consort. They sold Vantage went travelling and later set up Consort.

Had a look at this van at the show, it is a Consort Pace XL which I believe is a new model. Similar to Vantage EOS.

thanks very much for info - we're going to visit Consort on Friday (y) . You think we'll have any issues insuring a conversion as opposed to factory manufactured motorhome?

None at all. We’re on our 2nd IH and have used Safeguard, Comfort and NFU. Good luck. How very exciting. IH is a PVC converter very similar to Consort.
