So... for those who use these camper stops a question please, I am off into Euroland in May (Netherlands/Denmark/Germany/ Swiss) and have never used these 'MH stops', looking through Camperstop book/app and similar I note there is no mention of when you can arrive? Is there a 'arrive after X time' or can you arrive at any time. My ferry arrival options are coming up with early morning or evening. Cheers.

It depends .......

As a rule of thumb, particularly in Germany, they seem to charge from noon to noon, but we have also stayed on a site where it's 8am to 7.59am which means an early start if you don't want to pay for another day!
9am, 10am and 11am are also fairly common.

Each site may have different rules.

Some share the parking space with the local facilities such as the swimming pool, therefore they don't want you to arrive before the end of the day (5pm'ish) and want you off the site by 9.30'ish

Others want you off site by 10am or 11am and want the site cleared for cleaning between 11am and 1pm.

Other sites lock the gates for 2-3 hours over lunch time (12 to 3pm).
So you are either locked in, or locked out.

The 'pub' type sites don't want arrivals before 5 or 6pm and want you gone before the lunchtime clientele arrive the next day.

Camperplaatz/Stellplatz same as french aires roll up anytime , if your french usually after they have been round for the money and then away early morning obviously different for campsites .

Campsites and Stellplatz where payment may be required, are all very different. An Aire is usually free while a campsite needs paying for. Some sites require a minimal payment, Booking in is something I have never done.

In France Aires near to residents you should not arrive after 10pm or leave before 7am, it would be pretty inconsiderate if were outside those hours anywhere.
Generally, there are no set times occasionally you get one like Brugge in Belgiun the turnover time is 11 am & if you stay past 11 you have to pay for another day.

Where does your ferry dock?
Its much more common to have to pay at Stellplatz.
If you buy Park4night app (10E) you will find much more information and the ability to filter the type of stopover you prefer.

Ferry route is to Rotterdam, via Hull or Harwich, Newcastle is coming up too high a price. Thanks. I am not going to France this year.

Download the Stellplatz app, very useful, gives the important data on the sites and sometimes with photos.
It's our go to app for Germany, Austria and Italy also the Scandi countries if you go up instead of down.

Thanks to all and I will get the Stellplatz app + Park4night. Useful info in the replies. Roby2008 has described my main Geo areas of interest.

Ive stopped on lots of stellplatzes over the years. Ive found very few are as described by "Brains". There are not many with time restrictions, some are manned but most are controlled by machines of some sort. For the majority its the easiest stop ever, drive into space, if there is a machine then buy a ticket.

Download Camper Contact as well that's our mainstay for Aires & Stellaplatz we find it much more reliable than P4N.
Need to check reviews carefully on P4N lots of places only suitable for small camper vans we only use it as a last resort.

Bord Atlas is good, particularly for Germany. Lots of information about the Stellplatz. We found in Germany and Austria that the stellplatz were often not what you would think of as an aire, often they are private individuals, restaurants, vinyards etc. Look for kostenloss which if not free is free if you buy something, say a drink or meal at the bar.

An excellent Stellplatz for the Rotterdam ferry is at beautiful Gouda. It's basically a morhome carpark in the centre of the city and has fill and empty facilities.

Folkranger, thanks for Gouda tip, I was looking for stop near the ferry for the run back home. I will look into that + the bord atlas. My first ‘try out’ is in Germany at a Paid but well equipped location , price is very good to.

There are some Aires in Belgium now which need an app to "buy" the stay..... Harelbeke is now via this pay method. https://aanuit.net/mijnaanuit/start-stop/ Just for reference for future if you are over. Looks like many place in the Netherlands use this. Going to research the site a wee bit more when in Castleton tomorrow and probably Thursday looking at the forecast....lol

So how does one pay without a smart phone, which I have not got?

OH has one but I could be travelling alone.

Roby2008 can you tell us which stellplatz app you were referring to?
There seem to be a few but the most obvious one from the name looks like it's just Scandinavia.
TIA

on Google play store, once you have it then open it and click the 3 dot sysmbol on the top bar, you then have the option to change country.
The default country is Sweden.
I forgot to add, when you change the country you will need to move the map around by finger drag to find the country you have selected.
