CAMC - you can check out, but you can’t leave

I cancelled my CAMC renewal a month or two ago - we didn’t use any of their sites in 2022 so it didn’t seem worthwhile continuing our membership into 2023.

A week or two later we were surprised to receive new membership cards for 2023 and then today the postman delivered both the 2023/24 Site Directory and Handbook together with the map and the CAMC magazine.

Further evidence of chaos with their computer systems?

You must have it on auto renewal. you have a phone call or two to to make try and get your money back.

I've just joined the C&CC after 3 years... surprisingly I was blocked using an email address used before because they still had it on file.

Yes I could have rejoined but that would have meant phoning (I don't like phoning, I don't like waiting either whilst your call is important) and anyway their office is/was closed for Christmas.
Much easier to simply join as a new member.

Maybe she can sort the OPs problem then.
But then I suppose you should always cancel direct debits with your bank first.

As mentioned, cancel your direct debit. I think that the computer system can tell if you try to book after your membership has expired. (Well, the old computer system could)

I took out a Warners deal at the Malvern Motorhome show in August. I think it was 3 issues of the magazine for £5.

At the end of that time, I was expecting a hard-sell to sign up for more but nothing happened. No further money was taken.

Yesterday, I got an email with a digital membership card entitling me to £5 of any Warners shows in 2023! Result

Seems these organisations aren’t very good at admin

Perhaps they have a benevolent attitude to members from the northeast? But more likely evidence of broken systems?

I think that the computer system can tell if you try to book after your membership has expired. (Well, the old computer system could)

...but probably not the CL network where you book directly (unless they double check your membership number)

A job she enjoys and gets paid well, good for her and can only assume she is rewarded for her skills and competency.

Probably not. Many companies produce mailings in advance of the due date so that is a more likely explanation.
The fact that they took no money from your account would support that.

I have done the same thing, cancelled my membership and direct debit in July as we had sold the Motorhome.

We received the new books, so rang to check why. They said you are still a member till May 23 and that’s why you received the books.

They confirmed I had cancelled the direct debit and made sure ( which for some reason I wasn’t ) that they had me cancelled on the system

Worth trying to get on with the new cards. Could be a great result if your bank account isn’t debited!

The problem is that joining as a new member you will lose all those benefits you get for being a long-standing member for many years. Oh the irony!

we've had new cards through the door althou we havent renewed our membership, but looking at the crap that comes with them it said that we need to either contact them or fill out the direct debit form to continue our membership...

We had same response after 18th . Also there wardens are paid very well great pensions too . We don’t go away at weekends to contribute to that

The cards, maps, books and magazine are all processed by an outside company. I phoned up their office and promptly talked to a very pleasant lady who cancelled my DD but sait it would take a few months for the magazine to stop being delivered. She also asked me to send the new membership cards back. All in all it was easy to do and i was not left hanging on the phone.

I would want to be paid well having to put up with winging and whining motorhome and caravan owners, then there is the job of cleaning up the crap they leave behind and the mess in the toilet block, not exactly a fairy tale job
