Cam belt and tyre replacement

Please can anyone recommend a competent , reasonably priced garage in the East Midlands to carry out a cam belt change on our Fiat Ducato Hymer manufactured in late 2014. Although our tyres are well within the legal limit I thought I read on this forum that they too should be changed at the five year point.

We would normally use Nick Fisher at Eurotruck in Leicester but understand he is no longer trading and unfortunately we have lost his mobile number to ask his advice.
Many thanks

I read in my handbook that cambelt replacement was as has been posted earlier check at 90,000 & change at um a lot of Kim’s, but, at least every five years whichever is earliest. I agree with most with their comments, and can argue till the cows come home with others. But the way I see it, if manufacture suggest 5 yrs they must have a reason for it, same as for belt manufacturers. It’s the individuals choice at the end of the day. The recommended time scale is quite clear.
I changed mine yesterday because I have no indication if it had been done at all (it’s nine yrs old) as a matter of fact there were tippex marks on the pulleys so had been done at some point. So it was coming up to the 5yr mark next year, now it’s done and I’ll do it again in another 5yrs IF I can ??

I think we've all overlooked the bits that the belt runs on, idler, tensioner, water pump, etc that can wear and generally deteriorate in time whatever mileage we do. I have removed belts that arguably were still good but with running components that have failed and this on engines that have not covered the miles but are overtime. Each to his own but I would insist on changing at time whatever the mileage.

Not overlooked, they come in a kit ?

I was thinking more on tbe lines of the existing not replacement parts. Plus I have seen components fail soon after garages have replaced just the belt, too easy for the less scrupulous to just change the belt.

Yes I agree, very easy to make a few more bucks for them ?

When doing this job you should replace the belt the tensioner all guide pulleys and the water pump to do it properly no point leaving the water pump for it to fail 12 months later

No need to change water pumps unless defective, but as you rightly pointed out earlier in the thread “each to their own “.

Thing is you have to remove cam belt to replace water pump for the sake of £70 I would never leave it as I doubt it would last the next 5 years

It is a necessity on some engines, but not on others. Again it’s the owners choice ?

We always ask the customer what they want to do but if they say leave the water pump we clearly Mark the invoice to say we gave them the choice. This way if it leaks in 12 months they can't say we didn't give them the option and that they would have done it at the same time if we had offered it
