With my van being delivered shortly (hopefully!) I thought I would source a couple of new 6kg Calor Gas bottles for it; however it seems Calor have banned any retailer selling new (like-for-like exchanges only), so I wonder what alternative bottle option are there?

I don't want to go to a "plumbed-in" option (but that might have to change) as I am still unsure on availability of LPG around the UK; so really looking at similar bottles to the Calor gas options?

Do I have any options ?

Thanks

Phil

I had a similar issue. I bought a Gaslow bottle and I haven't plumbed it in. The local filling station is fine with refilling it.

There are quite a lot of company’s do exchange bottles but as far as I know they only accept their own bottles back. May be worth checking if they will take a different suppliers bottle in exchange of not. I don’t think anyone except Calor has a U.K. wide distribution set up otherwise. Personally I would go refillable unless you never go anywhere near any lpg places

If you are Middlewich then you have a station in Crewe and a station in Northwich, neither too far from you. Go with a gaslow, you won't regret it.

Have a look on ebay, gumtree etc. once you have a bottle you can just exchange it, you don't need any evidence you bought the bottle originally

And I see Harris Gas in Northwich also sell it. Hmm, maybe refillable...

I fitted my own, single large cylinder and have a 6kg calor as a back up just in case, not needed the calor yet at all.

You can get new bottles no problem from just about anyone except Calor, can even get Flowgas at go outdoors but need to start a contract if you don’t get one.
That’s why I said to check if other suppliers will on,y exchange their own bottles first, you don’t want dig
Fervent bottles for different parts of the uk

If Harris Gas has not got one try D Smithson in Kidsgrove. He is opposite Tesco. Also Surefill are based in Fenton, Stoke on Trent.

Or you could always go with Flogas.

Buy a second hand Calor and exchange it.
A few weeks ago I bought 2 X 6kg calor bottles, one full and one over half full for £30 from Facebook marketplace.

How much would a pair of refillable bottles be plus adapters if needed.

Very true (it's what I have) but newbies won't realise this and hence they come here for advice (y)
Agreed, but there have been a lot of lpg garages previously sold out of lpg or closing lpg pumps ,with general scaremongering that lpg is getting harder to find. Plus the initial high cost of refillables or not having the DIY skills to install.

If the 11kg is much bigger than a 6kg calor it won't fit in my gas locker.

ahh bugger, it is indeed taller. :-/ You may well be stuck with the 6kg cylinders then, you can have one and save up for another depending on your gas usage? or stick to one 6kg refillable and one 6kg calor? Also, you never mentioned if you were fitting it or getting someone else as that will obviously up the cost.

Aye, lots of scaremongering has gone on, but you just need a mind shift because people think there's nothing near them so they'll be screwed. I was exactly the same, then someone on here said, so what? Just look for a garage on whatever your first trip out is and every other trip from then on. Penny dropped! Since then had zero problems getting gas including a 2 week run round Scotland, Orkney etc at end of June.

Two refillables at £644 is 21 calor exchanges ( I pay £30 per exchange).
I use about 4 bottles a year so it would take about 5 years to break even.

Our classifieds have two Calor bottles for sale: Broken Link Removed

A butane 7kg = 6kg propane bottle - size wise
Plus, it’ll be on the same exchange rating.
Not sure what you’d do with the 15kg bottle 🤪

I wouldn't go for Calor. You can't get it outside the UK and currently seems difficult even to get it in the UK.
Refillable every time available all over and a lot cheaper.
There are only two places near me with lpg but that's two more than with calor.

You could fit one refillable, say gaslow, and then when you obtain one ,a calor as a back up. Or another refillable.
We have 2 x 6kg gaslow but I dont think we have ever had need to have one totally empty and switch to the other. We tend to top up lpg whenever we see it available even if it's just a couple of litres.

There is a calor bottle for sale in the classified section £40 part full.

Have you check flogas in your area, an alternate to calor. They seem to be more ready available.
