Basingstoke Morrisons Petrol Station (recently made a Morrisons Daily Franchise) is advertising 6kg refills at £41.75. I swapped a bottle at a small local hardware store for £29.75 about 6 weeks ago. I would have thought/hoped Morrisons would be at least competitive - if not cheaper than a small local store. It looks like its going to be an expensive Rally Season when using Gas if that's the way gas prices are going.

My mistake was not getting gaslow refillables sooner.

Have thought of this, but not too easy to find a refill operation in the Basingstoke Area. Anyone know of one without travelling many miles just to 'top up'?

Another vote on safefill, even if you have one to use side by side with a calor. Last fill on my 10kg bottles for 19ltr of gas was under £14.

I seem to remember Morrisons fuel stations being taken over or similar last year and the pumped LPG went up from under £1/litre to £1.30/litre across ALL Morrisons stations overnight.

We've had Gaslow for 8 years and they've certainly paid for themselves. Last time I bought 6kg propane at Morrisons, it was about £23 for a refill.

Conversely the 47kg bottles (94litres) are still good value at £75. We use one bottle a year for the gas cooker at home.

Gasit, Gaslow, Alugas (which we have) are an immense saving over pre filled bottles, especially abroad where the price is appreciably cheaper than the U.K. I calculate around 40/50% cheaper.

That's what we had until we finished the Calor Lite we had and replaced with another 19ltr Safefill.

Do you never overnight anywhere more than 20 - 30 miles from Basingstoke?

Why do you need a refill station close to Basingstoke?

We fill up whenever the need arises wherever we happen to be; we’re not tied to area near where we live for fill ups.

According to mylpg.eu there's nothing right on your doorstep.

Nearest one is probably the one in Sutton Scotney or possibly Fleet Services.

I'm lucky that I have one a mile from me so I tend to top up before I head out on a long trip but otherwise as bigtwin suggested I'd just look for the nearest one in the general direction you're heading out in and stop there.

There are various apps and websites that list and rank LPG fill ups.

Not to mention so much less hassle👍

I'm afraid the answer is no - we travel the South of England to vintage rallies with my ageing tractor spending 3-5 days in a field during the Summer period. So Gas most of the time for cooking, and cooling. Our total average is 700 miles p.a. So although we are not big users (probably 3 bottles p.a.) it hurts when you have to buy a bottle at such prices!

The station identified by fishplug below is a mere 20 minutes drive south west of Basingstoke, and the other station east of you is a similar distance, neither being very far from you at all. 🤷‍♂️

Nothing is cheap in Basingstoke (y)

Thanks to all - good to know at least 3 re-fill sites near to Basingstoke. Lived here for 74 years so not sure if we live in an expensive area or not, all I know is money doesn't go far anywhere. But Hey-Ho! enjoying retirement:rolleyes:

You treat it as any other fuel top up as you go . You don't need to do it home. I do it on the way out and on the way back or when the first bottle run out.

Last top.up 2 days ago fingers crossed won't need to to it again this week

I should read all post before I reply my mate moved out of bassingstoke 40 years ago she said it had become a suburb of London. ::bigsmile:

That is why I moved to diesel heating. The prefilled bottles are getting extortionate since Ukraine/Russia kicked off.

There is also a couple here in Wiltshire not to far from A303 Bulford village and Ludgershall👍

The calculations as whether to insyal a re-fillable system, cylinder(s) or tank, is changing in favour of re-fillable as exchange cylingergas prices are increasing.

Anyone who did the calculation some time ago and decided to stay with exchange cylinders might be well advised to redo the calculation.

You don't "just top up" with gas.

You run one cylinder to empty, and then start looking for a refill on your travels.
It does not need to be local, or even within 150 miles of where you are based.

Even in mid winter the other cylinder will last a week.
Use the "myLPG.EU" app to find garages on your route with LPG (and the current price P/L)

FYI:
In 5 years, with a single 11kg GasLow and a back up 11kg Calor we have never run out.
And the Calor is still full with gas put in in 2019

We have decided that is summer we will run the Calor to empty and then replace it with a small GasLow as emergency back up.

FYI
The cheapest LPG in the UK is around Birmingham.
