Just swapped out a Calor 3.9kg propane cylinder for the 6kg, as they no longer replace the 3.9kg ones.

I‘d REALLY had to hunt one down, as they seem to be in short supply. Kept being told by dealer after dealer that Calor just haven’t delivered. Finally managed to find one a few miles away at a country store.

Staggered at the cost…£36.15. o_O This is only a 6kg propane cylinder for occasional use at home.

Thank heavens we have refillable gas on the MH! £72.30 to replace 2 x 6kg is just a joke, except that it isn’t for those who have to do it. To refill with 6kg of propane costs about £12 and that’s making the garage a bit of profit too.

Unbelievable.

Didn’t know that was a thing. You’d need some sort of adaptor I guess, and a filling station that wasn’t too fussy.

Once, when I was filling our MH up at a garage, there was a young couple who were refilling a couple of the big ones for their trailer home. They didn’t quite get the seal right on the second one and it let off with a massive prolonged hiss, sending everyone running for cover.

I've got 4 x 2.5kg bottles available in Greenwich SE10.
All are full, none have seals.

From our local Scout hut, they have got rid of the lanterns that they powered so are no longer of any use.
All proceeds back to the Scouts!. Make me an offer!

I ordered a 6kg from a local company who deliver, a refill is £33.99 Calor want £39.99. They promised to phone before delivery but didn't and I came home to a full 6kg cylinder in the porch, I still have the empty and although I am waiting for them to call about it I've not heard a thing. Unfortunately here in Southampton there's only one LPG garage so I am hesitant about getting a safefill.

We live in Ringwood and have the same concern about Safefill. Would like to get one but the nearest Morrissons (Verwood) where they some sort of agreement don’t sell LPG. There seems a tiny amount of approved dealers in the South too, so can’t even buy one locally if I wanted to.

How would they know if you kept the safefill in the locker and used the auto gas point to refill it? Same thing and certified safe?

2 weeks ago Calor in Norwich delivered a 47kg cylinder: £102 + £5 delivery.
I'd left one of my empties near the gate and when I got home there was a full one, along with a note.
1 My regulator doesn't have an OPSO, but no indication of what that is.
2 My regulator is lower than the output of the cylinders (it's been like that since we changed from 13kg to 47kg 12y ago).
3 My pigtails are dated 1991.

So I now have a new reg with Over Pressure Shut Off, at a suitable height and new pigtails. Cost £175!

Interestingly, the place where I get my bottles refilled charges approx £44 for a 13kg Calor whereas Calor charge £39 + £5 delivery. Obviously, I would only get ONE delivery charge, so I'm a little bit annoyed with my lpg people, as Norwich would charge me £5 less for two bottles AND I wouldn't have to spend time and fuel collecting them.

OK: I should know from the MH that the pigtails need to be reasonably in date, although the guy who did my new setup said that the only NEED to be replaced if they are showing distress eg from being in the sun (which they aren't whenever the MH is present), so I could have kept the old ones.
Common sense says that the reg should be higher than the outlet, so I don't get liquid running in.
Lessons will be learnt!

Pop across to Christchurch, down Stony Lane and up past Sainsburys. The station at the Cat & Fiddle have an LPG pump

I probably still have a couple of 6kgs with gas in and a couple of 13kgs and a 19kg that I use in the garden for the BBQ. Sold a couple of 6kgs last summer for £60 each. Better than money in the bank at the moments it seems

From 1st February 2023, the Cube, 3.9kg Propane, 4.5kg Butane, 6Lite Propane and 12kg Butane will be discontinued. This means that customers won't be able to buy new cylinders or exchange existing cylinders of these sizes for a refill.

Dont just rely on calor for gas, or petrol stations for lpg. Do your research locally.
We have Cheshire Gas who have five depots locally. They have their own bottles and lpg pumps and do delivery’s of bottled gas.
Just google independents im sure you will find one locally. You can always snaffle one of their bottles at the local tip thats what i did.

I have a full 6KG and a full 10KG Gaslight bottle. Not used them for over 18 months since I fitted my single Gaslow. Think I need to sell and make some money!!

Somerset Safefill will despatch a cylinder and throw in a free pigtail. Don't worry too much about a local LPG supply. I'm about 15 miles in each direction to my nearest ones. You just fill up whilst on your travels.
