Calfire Stor-Dry

Two signals to get the antenna twitching!

70w per hour. Means nothing.

And where does the water go if there is no reservoir.

You need a cold plate to remove humidity.

Ice-cream tub filled with salt would probably be as efficient

one of these if your after a dehumidifier.

It's not a dehumidifier as it doesn't remove water.

It reduces relative humidity by heating the air, as far as I can tell.

But I doubt that it will raise the temperature by very much. So it probably wont reduce relative humidity by very much either.

Thanks to everyone who has replied to the OP so far and offered their opinions and theories. There's lots of pros and cons but what I was after was hearing from someone who has actually used one of these things. It seems a pretty popular product and is widely stocked in chandleries etc so it is either fantastically well marketed and ultimately useless or it actually does do something making it worth having.

It's a low-powered heater.

Probably cheaper to buy a similar power greenhouse tube heater.

75W is not going to heat anything but a small amount of air that will cool rapidly. Warm air carries more moisture than cold air so all this is likely to do is move damp from one place to another. Unless the moisture is collected and removed I can’t see any point.

I have one in the caravan .. I bought it from a guy who sold his boat and was selling some bits .. I cover the caravan in the winter with this inside plugged in .. it’s just warm to the touch . Never had mould appear . Ive been using it for a few years .
Ive never tried it in the motorhome tho ..

Got one of those .....um

Talking to someone who sells these and he says the point is that they circulate air, drawing it up from floor level, warming it slightly (but it's not a room heater) and setting up air currents in the space its operating in. This prevents air 'pooling' in dead areas and discourages damp and mould. Not much point in having one if you are in and out of the van daily as just opening and closing the habitation door a few times should achieve roughly the same effect. On the other hand, if you're leaving the van unattended for some time, probably quite useful. Certainly has a market in the yachting world.
