Hi all,

We're planning a trip to the Cairngorms area for about 7-10 days, where we want to alternate between wilding with the occasional site or facility to empty. I wondered if anyone knew of great places (i.e. quiet, beautiful, out of the way) to park up for a night or two, as well as any unmissable sights/walks, etc., that I might not know. We've been to Scotland many times, but never to this area.

Any recommendations gratefully received!

The Cairngorms is a big area and there are lot's of places to park up, either sites, Aires or off grid. You don't say when you plan to visit but there is a lovely aire on the way up to the mountain railway, you have to book on line and I think it's about £15. Check Par4Night or SearchforSites for good spots.

More than toes wet now!
In Fort William right now and heading toward Cairngorms tomorrow. If this weather continues I recommend a canoe.

If the forecast is correct you may need ski's :cold:

Ok I'm exaggerating a bit but it's getting a lot colder by the weekend.

Don’t know about that. Ever optimistic, son and kayak club tried on Sunday only to find the car park was flooded too 😂.

I'm a newbie
I really like Rothiemurcus campsite. Not too far to walk into Aviemore and plenty of walking/cycling paths in the forest
