Can't help I'm afraid, we never take the quickest route to anywhere..

Quickest will be toll roads but do you want to pay ? Best may be free roads with more scenery and choice of places to stop.
Google maps will give the options and there are a few websites to obtain toll costs once you know your vans category.

Viamichelin will give you quickest/cheapest etc. You can put in the make of your vehicle, for instance I put in Fiat Ducato 2.3 Multijet 130 and it will give you a rough idea of costs.

We like the E11/A75 past Millau down past Beziers and Perpignan then you are almost there, so try Caen - Le Mans - Tours - Vierzon - Clermont Ferrand and on down the long, mainly free, dual carriageway to Beziers. There appears to be several routes depending how far West you want to go.
Incidentally, Girona is a lovely city, with an aire almost in the centre!

Wholeheartedly agree. We've overnighted the last two years on our return journey home at the Aire in the centre of Girona. Fantastic atmospheric city, especially in the run up to Christmas when it's all lit up.
