I'm considering fitting a Victron Energy Phoenix Inverter 12/500.

I don't expect to be using it at its full output very often.

I have 2x nearly new 110Ah LA leisure batteries. From these batteries I have 2x fused 10 mm^2 +ve and -ve cables, 1 metre long, ending in a 70Amp Anderson connector.

I use this cable to allow me to charge up a 12v battery box that I use with an electric outboard motor. It also allows me to temporarily add a 3rd battery if I am going to be off grid for a while.

I know that good advice is to fit an inverter as close as possible to the batteries, but is this run too long to plug an inverter into?

(10mm^2 is the maximum size cable the inverter can take.)

Even if you had 2m of 10mm^2 wire at 45A, it would only give a voltage drop of 2.7%, which is less than the 3% guideline limit, so will be OK. The Anderson connector will also have a small voltage drop, but probably won't push it over 3%.

Thank you. I thought I'd be OK, but it's good to hear it from someone who knows what they are talking about. :giggle:
