I'm thinking of replacing the cab mat in our Ducato based coachbuilt as the original is getting very tatty now. There appear to be many companies on the web who supply these in all sorts of colours and carpet weights. Anybody have any experience or recommendations? Anything that helps me just making a "random selection" will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Thats good idea. I'm not keen on loose mats thought having had a very disturbing event recently. Having picked up our new van from the dealer's, and only driven a few miles back, I drove down through France, with no shakedown. Manoeuvring on a busy and very tight Aires in Bergerac, the steering absolutely locked. I instantly stopped, and realised that the front cab mat had wrapped around the steering column knuckle joint. It had just been laid loose by the dealer with no fixing studs, and had crept forward in the 5 or 6 hundred kilometres drive. I just felt relieved that I was only doing 2 mph at the time it happened.

I always make a fitted one myself from gel backed carpet.
Do you clip them down to stop them slipping? How do you make the holes through the carpet for the press studs?

Fit them under the trims.

I've noticed at Shows that some converters don't supply cab carpets as standard even on their A Class models. Scrooges!

I bet they could bulk buy them for less than a tenner.

Our van came with a full set but they are made of tissue paper 😂

My lad gets them from work, they are like Lenny’s. They put them inside the doorways of shops and offices. Brilliant kit, I can lay them flat and pressure wash them a couple of times a year without problems.

A bit like an airline charging you to take hand luggage...

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Will take the plunge soon...

I prefer rubber mat on top of the carpet, keeps the mud off the carpet and avoids the worn heel spot. Mats designed to fit the cab area are relatively cheap and easy to wash off.

I bought a new one from the Malvern Show but the same guy attends most of them. I was impressed with the quality far better than the orginal with the van logo on it

Took all our ‘proper’ mats/carpets out-they’re in storage,
For the cab I bought a heavy ‘runner’ from B&M, brown heavy cord-like material, a ‘Dirt Grabber’ for the cab, and no it doesn’t move, it’s not fitted so I can just lift it out to clean.

I bought ours from Motorhome Essentials. They are really good quality, good fit, and surprisingly effective at reducing engine noise. They came with little mats for the cab step. Very good.

I bought a remnant from Carpet Barn ((£25), used the old mat as a template and gave this to a lovely local lady who cut it to shape and bound the edges, including making two small easily removed square mats to go under our feet all for £45. We have enough of the remnant to do the same again if needed, or do something with it for the rear.

On top of the gel backed carpet I use, I cut square of the gel back ank hold it in place with small squares of velco hooks. Not really necessary as no heel marks at all after 37,000 miles.

My carpets where already screwed under the edges when I bought my Ducato, is that not normal? 🤔
I've got a single loose-fitting carpet that fits across the whole cab and can be lifted out. When I say loose-fitting, I mean that it doesn't have any fastenings. It's actually quite secure in the cab, doesn't move around at all.

I've done that for a carpet in the living area - but the length of edge whipping required (all I've seen charge by the metre) for the convoluted cab carpet means that it would come out more expensive than buying a bespoke carpet

I acquired a large off-cut of heavy duty carpet - intended for offices & pubs etc and used the original carpets as a template to cut the new mats to size & shape. Check out the carpet stockists - that way you can choose the pattern you want. Many of them don't need to be "whipped" either.
