Hymer C524
New on here & would be very grateful for any help with a problem I have. I have just bought a C524 (2003) and I can’t get water to my taps!!

Initially on filling the water tank it all poured straight out onto the floor - took me a while to discover that the plug had been taken out of the tank, so once I put the plug in the water stayed in the tank 😂

The manual that was with the Motorhome is hopeless as although it sometimes shows photos of thing it doesn’t tell you where to find them! Having filled the water tank I was fully expecting to turn on the main tap & washroom tap and get water - unfortunately I was wrong. When I open the taps the pump doesn’t make a sound. Any suggestions would be welcome as I am at a loss as to how to sort this out.

Thank you

Is it a submersible pump ?
Assume you have the 12 v turned on ?
Check the fuse for the pump, it'll be on the EBL or similar controller.
After that check electric connections for the pump at the tank and then try another pump

Hi, it is a submersible pump. I have it hooked up to mains at the minute, sorry but I don’t know how to switch the 12v on. The display above the door shows the battery as fully charged but when I press one of the other buttons it says 12v is off.

Hymer's use a submersible pump in the tank and it is turned on with microswitches in the tank.

First check is to measure the voltage at the pump with a multimeter, there will be a connector on top of the tank.
You should see. 12v with a tap open, try all the taps.
If you get volts and the pumb doesn't run it's the pump.

If no volts check to see if there is a pump isolation switch somewhere it could be anywhere also the control panel needs to be turned on.

The switches in the taps regularly fail but unlikely to be all of them.

You could also try connecting 12v straight to the pump to see if it runs.
Also check the pump fuse in the EBL.

Would it be easier to ask whoever you bought it from? Or is that not an option?

The EBL fuse will look something like this, and is quite often found found either under the passengers front seat, or under a a forward based jump seat.
Do you have a multimeter on board for simple circuit testing?
Welcome to the forum.

I have tried to contact the previous owner but not getting any response unfortunately. 😞

Thanks for that. I have asked my son to take a look as he has a multimeter. 👍

Is the water tank accessible? The Hymers quite often have a removable filler cap, that also gives access into the tank. lso quite often under a double passenger seat.

Mike.
Water tank is under one of the double seats, so I can get at the pump. 12v shows as off on panel. Trying to figure out how to switch it on.

Check this first, before you get a multimeter out, etc. All motorhomes not being equal, ours has a 12v switch which turns on the 12v, then another to turn the pump on (and one for lights, water heater, etc.).

Ok, Thanks. I will take a look

ekimnas any chance of a picture of your control panel ?
I have a switch that turns the hab 12v on and a separate switch that turns the water pump on.

This is the control panel. As you can see it shows 12v as off.

ekimnas So you have a separate switch for your pump.
I assume you turn the battery symbol to on, 12v to on and water pump on.

Hi. Yes I think so. I have worked out how to switch the 12 volt on so just a case of either finding a switch for the pump and/or testing the supply to it

ekimnas What does the switch with the water tank sign, above the 12v switch, do ?
Is it your fresh water level ?

I found the pump fuse (thanks to your photo) fuse is ok. There is also a switch for the battery on the same box - this is turned on. So I need to find a switch for the pump (if one exists) and/or test the supply to the pump - son coming with multimeter at the weekend

PS, on mine, [ Sunlight, a Hymer relative] the pump if tested at the water tank will need a tap open, which activates one of the micro switches within the tap. This puts a call on the pump to start pumping, and sends power to the connection for the pump.
Without a tap open, there is no voltage at the pump.
Are all the other electrics working correctly on the 12v side?
If so, then yes, perhaps some winter damage to the pump has occurred.
What pump is it ?
Mike.

Thanks for the help, will make sure that the tap is open when we test it. All other 12cv things seem to work ok. Not sure what make the pump is but will get back to you

I have a Hymer as well.

Most likely culprits for no water, in order are.

12v switch to 'off'
(Marked as 'AUS') on the blue electrical box.

Pump switched off.
There will be a light type switch somewhere, possibly close to the pump/tank that switches off the pump, It would normally have a tap graphic on the switch.

A blown fuse.
Happy Hunting.

The pump has failed.
The pumps only seem to have a life of 2-3 years.
I always carry a spare and I'm on my 3rd one in a 2018 van.
They are not difficult to change but you need patience and the hands of a surgeon and possibly the flexibility of a contortionist.
Even if it turns out the pump is fine, buy the spare one (and associated pipe and connectors) now as it could save a holiday next year.

Thanks for the advice. Going to hung for a switch, test the supply & get another pump anyway. Thanks

If this helps. In the days before multimeters were so readily available we used a test lamp. A bulb holder and a short length of cable attached. I had several bulb types, ac and dc, used to test voltage present or not. Still have it in kit, often first call. Cost, not a lot, useful, very.

Thank you for everyone’s help - I purchased a new pump, connected it and hey presto everything is now working! 👍
