I shall be 70 in 18 months time and am fixating (according to SWMBO) on retaining my C1 entitlement (we have a new >3500kg van arriving in April! ). Does anyone know where I can find out info regarding what medical conditions would require a walking stress test?

Yes, I have seen that, but only just read the appendices.
From appendix C:
"DVLA will require exercise evaluation at regular intervals not to exceed 3 years if there is established coronary heart disease."

Probably covers most things!

Don’t worry about it to much I applied last year I have suffered high blood pressure since turning 40yrs and went through without a hitch did not do any tests except eye test and D4D medical got C1 back within two weeks👍😊

Usually if you have had any heart condition or diabetes you are required to undergo a stress test. Plenty of info on here .search C1 and dvla

I am of a similar age and wondered how long before one's 70th. Birthday can you apply to extend the C1 entitlement?

Between 90 days and 56 days is best as you won’t need a photo if you have it on your passport😊👍

Thanks - in diary!

I renew my C E entitlement (Artics and Drawbars) annually as I am now 74, this automatically extends the C1+E entitlement for 3 years. If you take medication for Blood Pressure (I do) they will like three previous readings and list of all prescription medications which you take. Standard eye test etc. Provided there is no Diabetes, Coronary problems , excessive alcohol consumption, overweight and you are relatively fit you will be fine. A few weeks back I saw an old guy definitely 70 plus climb down from an artic. He had a walking stick, slowly made his way to fill the truck up and then hobbled into to pay. Frankly I could not believe what I saw but the cashier said he was a regular. Should he be behind the wheel of a 40 ton truck most definitely not!
But some doctor has passed him fit to drive!!

Could be a hip or back problem which does not hinder him when he is sat in the driving seat.

I have a back problem(no stick) and driving for many years in VW T5 Caravelles, which have lumber adjustment, I found that sitting there improved my back, as does the seat in our N&B Arto.

As title stress test

I am of the age that I have had to renew my DL twice now to keep my C1, because I underwent an ablation procedure in 2013 also at the same time they put 1 stent in as a precaution for a narrowed artery + I’m on BP tablets I have had to undergo a stress test both times at renewal at my local hospital paid for by the dvla .
They wire you up & then stick you on the treadmill with you walking on the flat & at a slow pace then gradually increasing the speed & imitating walking up an incline this all takes 10 minutes whilst your blood pressure is taken at regular intervals ,then hopefully you will pass .
I don’t think I will go through this process again come renewal as taking delivery of new to me a Motorhome under 3500kgs so will have to be careful how much to put into it .
