I didn't renew my C1 when I did my licence on turning 70 ( no MH at the time) Now we're considering upping the plate because of all the kit carried. Can anyone explain ( simply!) what I need to do to get the C1 back. Does it involve medicals, retests etc. or is it a paper exercise with just forms filled in by a GP. I've looked at the .GOV website and am now more confused than ever

It will be the same as if you were applying at 70, medical on D4 form and reapplying for the C1 license.

You need forms D2 & D4 some post offices keep them (main ones) or order online from the DVLA web site. We use D4Drivers for the medical around £55 cheaper than your GP. You will need the medical every three years from your 70 th birthday. Your medical history may affect your C1 entitlement.

Get the eyesight part filled in when you get your free eye test, preferably at one of the big chains. £10 at Specsavers.

If you're on blood pressure tablets they will take your present blood pressure, but they will also want some blood pressure readings from the previous month. Not sure how many, three or four I think. The readings I took from my blood pressure monitor at home over the previous month seemed to satisfy them.
