I’m buying a new motorhome in Spain and would really appreciate some advice. I’m in the process of completing the paperwork to get it registered but have run into a stumbling block as I need to give a residential address in Spain to get the padron. As a solution I was hoping to find a plot at a residential campsite so I have an address. It would need to have utilities to the plot so I have a utilities bill for the padron. Does anyone know of a site in the malaga region that has plots of this type? Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

You can't be on the Padrón legally if you're not a resident and you don't need a Padrón to buy and register a vehicle.

Where is your NIE registered?

When we had our apartment in Benidorm we were definately on the Padron..
Certainly not residents but did own the property..

Different places seem to read the rules differently. In la marina they used to tell you to go on the pardon even if you weren't resident. Now you can't get one if you aren't resident. Seems to depend which party has the mayor.

Some town halls will put anyone on the padrón because they receive funding per person, but ... you legally have to be resident. We, ourselves have been on a padrón in different towns over the years, but we weren't resident until about 7 years ago. Things have changed since we first registered.

Anyone who makes a large purchase needs an NIE number..
Anyone can buy a property or a vehicle in Spain, resident or not.
Proving you address is a must for local vehicle taxation and if you. the owner incurs Tragic violations once the owner of a vehicle.

I have bought many vehicles in Spain, both whilst a non resident and resident... I've had a NIE number for 25 years...

Every purchase except one. I was required to provide a Padron...this document is without doubt an accurate verification of the recipients address.

To the best of my knowledge non- residents who own properties are not required to be on the Padron, although some autonomous regions accept this.

This is how I understand the system works and if anyone can advise otherwise, please do.

We were on the Padron when we had our place. Santa Pola council were very keen to get the numbers up as there was so much development at Gran Alacant and they saw it as a nice little earner. Most of the money stayed in Santa Pola though and was always a sore point.

We also were on Padron. 24 years ago and could vote in local elections...even before we became permanent residents...
