Hi all,
this might be a silly question for UK residents, but not for us Germans. ;-)
We are heading to Wales in six weeks and obviously we will run out of gas while being there.
We saw some videos where it was said that it might be a problem to buy a propane bottle in the UK.
Can you confirm that?

If so, where can we buy a bottle?
What kind of connector do you use ? (We will need an adapter, too)

Thanks for any helpful information :-)

Regards,
Michael

Hi. I also have a 6kg bottle I don’t use, almost full. You’re more than welcome to collect for free. We might have the regulator too if I can find it.😊
Eastbourne East Sussex.

Bottles on Facebook marketplace place, check local selling sites etc.
You will most likely ( unless you have a very old van ) have a bulkhead regulator so all you need is a pigtail to connect the bottle to your regulator. Easily available in camping shops, Amazon and eBay etc.
Blue are butane and red are propane.

You need a UK address to hire (you don't buy, you never own it) a calor bottle.
As said, gumtree, Facebook, car boot sales etc. for a used bottle.
Once you have a bottle you are NEVER asked for documentation to prove it's yours.

You may need to hunt around for a Calor Bottle.
It is fairly easy to swap an empty bottle for a full one (Some fuel stations, marinas and campsites) .

But finding an empty Calor bottle for sale will be a hunt.
Ebay, Farmers markets, maybe even Campsites.

If you pay for membership in this site there is a market place here where they come up from time to time.

You will also need a suitable gas "pig tail"
Easy to buy, needs to be fitted properly.

A better option would be of course to upgrade you motorhome to a refillable LPG system.
It's easy to do in UK. Far easier than in Germany!
A German link here
A British link here

In the UK, a (pre-booked) GasLow system can be fitted 'while you wait'
You can also mix and match. 1 German bottle, one refillable GasLow bottle.
(I have one Calor and one GasLow)

Have you considered buying an Alugas refillable cylinder in Germany before you travel. The cost may be less than your ferry crossing to the UK. With country specific filling adapters, you could refill with autogas all over Europe - including Wales..

Hello Michael
As you will probably have a fixed bulkhead regulator ?
We may have a KLF to POL uk propane adapter.
You will probably find it easier to use a regulator hose like this :

Hi David, I'be glad to do that, but...

I've looked up how to do that, as I didn't find the button how to start a conversation...

Found out the option is not available for me (as a newbie?)

It depends on what you want to do with the cylinder. If you want to refill it yourself, that is illegal (though people do). Legally you cannot refill a cylinder that is another person's property. The only way to have a cylinder you can refill is to buy a Safefill cylinder or have cylinders or a tank fitted to your motorhome.
