I've got a problem with the gas locker door, the top hinge seems to be aluminium and is welded to the frame. The weld has worked loose and the door is drooping as a result. Apparently a replacement hinge is no longer available. I've currently wedged it up with a thin piece of wood. I can weld but aluminium is not a material I'm familiar with. Was thinking of perhaps some thin self tapping counter sunk screws but I'm guessing not much to screw into. Scratching my head at the moment.

Remove then clean hinge & frame to bare metal. Drill two holes hinge & frame 4mm. Then drill frame for countersunk M4 nutserts. Use M4 countersunk screws through hinge. Once that is complete & tested screw the hinge on bedded on Araldite (not Araldite rapid).

I just googled nutserts. Very clever. Filed away in brain for future reference - thanks

I don’t think it is welded to either part. I believe that there are two parts to each side of the hinge. One inside the recess, and the other outside the recess. The bolt that then goes through pulling the two parts together clamping part of the frame. I’d assume the thread on the inner part has gone so not gripping the bolt, so lacks the clamping force. You may just be able to retap the inner part to the next size up thread and use the appropriate bolt.

Apologies if mistaken, about it construction.

I too doubt there is any welding involved. Is there access to the back of the hinge?
