Burstner i840G
Brand new to your interesting forum.
We own a 2018 Burstner i840G . we have really enjoyed this Motorhome for two years . we think that the front suspension may have been built for smooth European highways , as it is quiet and settled on our minority of motorways.New Zealand sadly has lower quality roads generally .
The front end is a hard ride at times even harsh. The vehicle has a low forward stance ,meaning low in the front when seen side on.
I see that the UK has many more of these tag axel vehicles than we in New Zealand.I hope someone can please give me advice regarding - is it possible to replace the front end with taller springs and could this improve our ride experience , providing additional suspension travel. Is it ok to raise the front a few inches to do this seeing we are nose down? Will the drive shafts allow for this variation? Without upsetting the safe and predictable handling we have.
.load on front axel is about 2,100 kg .
i will really appreciate comment from any owner who has done similar. Regards Leon

Having spent three months touring North and South island back in 2012 I can sympathise with you 🙂 In the UK we had heavier duty springs put on our Pilote which had the desired effect, lifted the front and improved the ride, some go further and have the shocks changed at the same time

Some options here, all the way from just springs to full air,so it will depend on how deep your pockets are 👍

Spring rate and spring length are two different things. Getting thicker springs with a firmer spring rate will normally just make the ride more harsh. It will increase the ride height though, so I assume that's why vans that are slammed at the front report improvements when they get thicker springs?

I'm not sure what the rules are in NZ, but swapping the standard CP marked camper tyres (that have very stiff sidewalls and need very high pressures) for normal van tyres does significantly improve the ride on rough British roads.
