Hi,

Looking to get a family motorhome ... we're a family of four, our two boys are 2 and 4. I've seen a few models and like the look of bunk-beds - the
Adria Coral XL Plus 670DK looks like a great vehicle though it's new and so a bit pricey. Also, like the layout of this one.

Anyone got any advice about motorhomes like this one or better ones for families like ours? We'd really like to hold on to it for years and so bunk beds the boys could grow into would be ideal.

Cheers,
Kevin.

:welco: To the house of Fun. You will get sooo much helpful advice on here. You will also get soo much unhelpful advice. You just have to weed through the plethora of replies and suss out the ones you want. All in good spirits of course.;)

I have a Sunlight A72 which is very like the layout of the Adria above and has a rear set of bunks. We use ours for the dogs though.

Make sure the M.H. has adequate payload & adequate seat belts for 4 people.

Welcome.

We bought a Swift Escape 696 which has Rear bunk beds that are a good for for our 2 year old right up to adults. She will likely move to the top bunk in 18months once the current bump is ready for the lower bunk.

We have the over cab double for us although my wife is currently converting the lounge double due been pregnant and not wanting to use the ladder a lot up and down checking on the little one in the night. Suits me as I get my own double up top out the way to sprawl out lol.

The lounge double for reference can be use 3 different ways and we just make it into a wide single so the ladder can stay in place for me. Very versatile van for a family.

Good luck with the search.

Welcome

As Zigisla said above, you will get a mix of responses but you have come to the right place.

I am pleased to say I found out what caused that bump problem so stopped it at 1, a long, long time ago. I think the bunks idea with children is good though. I am happily single and no chance of ankle biters again.

Only you will know what is right for you and if you intend to keep it for some time then you can modify it to suit you and your family as you go.

Good luck, the experts should be along very shortly!

Just a thought, and no need to answer this, (and i certainly wouldnt answer this) but, is there a possibility of more ? It is a question for yourselves as the reason i point it out is some newer vans that have triple bunk beds.

We had a van with overhead bed and 2 lounge seats either side making a 5 berth and the girls. We moved positions with the girls over the years. to start with they loved the overhead. Then they got bored and we had to go up there, then they went in pup tents, but now, on Friday, the second one leaves the house and we will be going through the same thing with grandchildren (so the wife thinks) so adapatable is what i would suggest and viewing loads and seriously read teh threads about weight as this is important.

I think you have to join to be able to search threads. total cost 15 quid for a year. That 15 quid may well be the best 15 quid you spend in your motorhome career. It could save you buying a 40 grand van which you cant drive legally

I think you've chosen the best possible layout for a family van, lots of living and sleeping space without being 8m+.
The single dinette/long bench seat gives the extra lounging space that most bunk vans are lacking.
As the kids get older, you'll appreciate the benefits.
Hymer, Hobby, Dethleffs, Rimor, Sunlight, CI and Carado all make vans with this layout.
My favourite is Laika Kreos 3002, it's perfect (and popular with Italians;)). Sadly at 7.3m it won't fit on my drive, otherwise I'd own one!http://www.practicalmotorhome.com/reviews/motorhome/30271-laika-kreos-3002

Hope you manage to find something similar, I'm certain you won't regret it!

In relation to the van you are looking at. It says it has a 450 kg payload. A lot of recent discussion puts the weight that 2 motorhomers go away on holiday with between 600 and 800 kgs. Some of that is without bikes. 2 children will be a lot of toys. You may need to uprate this van to over 3500 kgs and then do you have a C1 licence i order to drive it ?

Whatever you decide GET SOME PASSPORTS and get into france where it is so much nicer for motrohomes(IMHO) of course

I don't have a C1 on my licence - I know that used to be free - how to you get it on if you're a young 'un like me? Is it a test or a payment?

That is the same layout as we had with our first van, a Carado. Since then we have a different van and the layout is slightly different although, but just that the bunk runs down one side of the van rather than actually being at the end. I'm guessing that 670DK has a small bed where the small table is ? this we also have and still use as setting up the main bed in the living area takes too long. We also switch things around and sometimes the children take the luton bed as 3 can easily sleep up there. We're a family of 6 and 3 dogs and we some how squeeze in..... although more often than not there's 5 plus 2 dogs, with the occasional friend of one of the children that comes along.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I think its a couple of grand and a couple of weeks ! An absolutely ridiculous scenario.
Do work need you to have a C1 for anything that you can blag ?
Again to give you some idea, I have a 450 kg payload and i bought some scales this week. By the time the solar, gas, batteries awning etc had eaten into my payload with the pots pans and plates saucers and a bit of water, I could just take the new motorbike in the van ...................................... but would have to leave the wife behind but i could have 19 litres of diesel ! No clothes, no food, no wine, no maps, computers ipads, cameras, pushbikes.
A lot of motorhomers do load their van over the top of 3500 (including til me til Friday last week) but you wouldnt have the licence, you would be well overweight.
One of the questions to ask the dealer is see how much it is possible to uprate the van by. If they say you can put it up to 3650, then this is still not likely to be enough for you.
Back to the test thing. If you start another thread (you have one post left) "Anybody know cheapest way of getting C1?) somebody will find out as my son in law needs it to drive my van now !
