BSB Thruxton this weekend any one going?

Not this weekend, but camping at the Cadwell round later on, just before we head for the Classic bike festival on the IOM o the 25th August for 9 days.

I may be still able to purchase concessionary tickets for this weekend (Thruxton) as we will be there, if of interest!

Sorry to say it was a crap weekend at Thruxton, So sad that True Heroes Team Rider Mark Fincham lost his life in a accident, & there was a massive sidecar crash later in the day, I spoke to the 2 drivers involved & 1 of the passengers all pretty beaten up, will update with more new's as & when, RIP Mark.

If this plays! How the hell was there not more serious injuries?

The Mark Fincham accident was horrendous to watch. Coming off at the esses just before the start/finish he was hit by his team mate sustaining irreversible injuries. It must be devastating for his family and all involved.

Just watched the video, horrendous.

Very impressed with the speed (duration) in which the medical car arrived. Well done Thruxton

Andrew

Mark's accident at Thruxton was shown on the local Anglia news tonight, he was an ex- marine who had already lost part of his leg in a motorcycle accident, his family said that he went out the way he would have wanted, RIP Mark.

Write off chassis, the other outfit looked a bit better but also a write off (n)

"Motor Racing Is Dangerous", it says so on every ticket but it take incidents like this to hammer it home.

2 grand's worth of fairing.

Thruxton is our local circuit, always sad when you hear such news from any racing. These guys know the risks, but still believe they will live to tell the tale. Accidents and injuries are expected, fatalities are not. RIP and condolences to friends and family.

Will never forget Karl Harris being hit by a flying bike at Thruxton and shrugging it off. He had another crash some years later taking out local hero Olly Bridewell by the Grandstand.

Was there at Campbell,Cobb and Seagrave and saw that as it happened.
Bad enough then a second one on the other side of the track on the warm up lap.
Several other bad spills and the poor True Heroes incident was too much to bear.
Loved my sport for over 50 years and more recently marshalling as well but sometimes think I should take up knitting!
Seriously though life is so cruel sometimes makes me wonder, but it will go on,as will the safety improvements, rider airbags,al the other stuff.
Just too late for some, think what happened to the late, great Mike Hailwood.

Not in your heart I'm sure. Some unspeakably boring people go through life without ever living. When your life is in your own hands and you push the limits you are alive, if you die, well at least you've lived.

To this day I remember my first solo flight, as I took off, with a big grin I had the thought "there's only one person on this planet can get you home tonight, that's you mate". Unbelievable feeling.

For those of you who don't know Mike Hailwood after a m/c racing career was killed in a car accident when a lorry driver made an illegal turn.

To make it even sadder he was just nipping out to the fish and chip shop. Few would disagree with the statement that he was the greatest bike racer.

But there is also John Surtees, the only man to have held all the bike titles and the F1 title. Not much change of that record being beaten.

Anyway, both leave that upstart Rossi in their wake. Rossi never raced all classes on the same day as they did in the old days.

I have a fairly clear recollection of the day Mike was killed, we lived in the Midlands at the time and it was on local news and remember thinking how on earth could one of the greatest ever be killed driving a brown SD1 Rover, very similar to my Dads. I was 17 and motorcycle mad (no change)
