We’re one week into a four week skiing trip and just figured out what that clanking noise on the Hab Door is - one part of one hinge has snapped in the open position.

Fears are 1. The door completely fails (or falls off) or 2. We cut a grove into the part of the door that’s now rubbing the broken hinge.

I tried to move the hinge into a closed position to alleviate #2, but it’s jammed tight. I’ve got WD40 and light oil - but seem to recall reading you have to be careful with lubricating door hinges - and I don’t want to add to #1!

I’m looking for any advice, tactical or otherwise from you knowledgeable bunch.

Thnx,
Heeb

The hinge looks the same as ours, we have three on our door. The parts that's snapped off is obviously seized as it should have just dropped out. I have removed my door by just undoing the 2 Allen bolt (shown in picture) and lowering the bottom part of all 3 hinges, then the door can be fitted off without undoing the top and middle part of the hinges. If it's the middle hinge then I would expect the door to be fine by removing the broken part. If it is the top or bottom hinge then I would consider swapping it into the middle ( Depending how tight the bolts are) if it happened on my van I would lift the door off then hacksaw the broken part off and replace the whole hinge when home.

Just done a bit of research for you.
It appears to be a Metallarte Door Hinge CR01, Metallarte area section of Lippert they have dealers all over Europe,. It appears to be a fairly standard hinge so you might find one in stock.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately I’ve just two hinges - this is the top one.

I’m trying not to freak out reading your description. It reads as though loosening the bottom Allen bolts of the hinges allows you to easily remove the door. Given that one of mine is effectively detached…

But are you saying that once loosened & lowered, you’re exposing a hinge pun and you’re raising the door off? I followed the link that Lenny HB very kindly provided, but I’m struggling to get the installation manual to download.

Also, if I’m understanding you correctly, once you’ve loosened the bolts that bottom section should slip down easily? Therefore I should be good to Lubricate my broken piece and apply a decent amount of downward force?

If you can get the hinge off you may be able to get someone locally to weld it back together. then source and replace at your leisure.
