Britstops and closed pubs

Every Brit stop I have used has been a business and they join because they think they will get some business from it. If everybody who stayed did not spend in their business they would soon leave. I am afraid that we could not bring ourselves to use their car park without spending something. Our conscience would not let us.
We don't care that we have the "right" to use it without spending. It is more about having a responsibility to keep good things going. The same when we use Aires in French villages. We always try to spend some money in the local shop, baker, bar or restaurant.
That's YOUR choice particularly as your saving on camp fees. Please read my above posts. I've never stayed at a Brit Stops and not bought anything but what I am saying is that under Brit Stops I'm NOT obliged to.
There's a world of difference.

They might not sell food but I’ve never been in a pub that didn’t sell non alcoholic drinks.
Ah, not been into a certain Salford pub then. Only sells beer. No spirits, no lager, no soft drinks, no coffee. The fact you've never been to one, doesn't mean there aren't any

As I have said before:

For those who understand: No explanation is necessary
For those who do not understand: No explanation is possible.

Re. Britstops, we have used them many times for an over-night stop, and as we need to eat we do so, and have had some really nice stops.
We would never dream of just using the car=park over-night, and especially if the pub / venue is closed, as that would not only be trespass, but downright rude.
Oh why oh why oh why can't you actually read and understand what I'm actually saying.
I've always said (and Steve from Brit Stops will confirm) that you are NOT obliged to. Please read my previous replies before lecturing me on that understanding.
If its closed, it is possibly a civil matter and you may be right that it is trespassing but that's absolutely nothing to do with the principles. That's a swerved ball you're doing. It is certainly not rude to abide by the principles laid down by Brit Stops.

I'll put this in capital letters in case any misses.

AT EVERY BRIT STOPS I'VE BEEN TO, I'VE ALWAYS PURCHASED SOMETHING. EVERY TIME.
HOWEVER, I AM NOT OBLIGED TO

We have been members of BritStops for many years over which time we have stayed at a multitude of pubs, garden centers, farms & farm shops, vinyards, tea rooms, boat yards, harbours, restuarants ,to mention a few of the varied stopovers.

We don't look upon any BS's as being cheap or free accommodation, in fact they probably cost us far more than would a conventional site.

However, we do find them convenient, we enjoy using their facilities and the usual warm welcome received. In our opinion BritStops is anothe string to our bow in the enjoyment of motorhomeing but not necessarily a cheap one.

I think that I would Phone to ask if it’s ok to overnight park and that you will put £10 through the letterbox as a thank you. Win win for everyone.

My point exactly, they may cost if you both have a meal, but when travelling we do not always want to cook, so a meal including an over-night stop very often works out cheaper that a meal and a camp-site.
plus wehave found some very pleasant locations to return to.
we view Britstops as another way of enjoying using the MH, have met some very interesting people over the years, and learnt things about the various locations.
each to their own views, life is too short to argue and fall out.
Let's hope that we can return to enjoying our wonderful hobby.

Well I think my last reply explained about Brit Stops and you're very fortunate as I never stopped on a France Passion without being told to buy something. I even went to one where the restaurant was closed that day and they actually opened up. It's ok, nice meal and seriously, I don't have a problem at buying something from places but what I'm saying is that with Brit Stops, you're not obliged to. I do buy but I'm not obliged to .
That's all I'm saying and I think that's pretty clear
To quote the France Passion site...

The only requirements to use this incredible network of sites are:
• a self contained motorhome (water and waste)
• an up to date Stopover Guide
• and to follow the France Passion “Golden rules” (greet your hosts on arrival, leave the site clean, let your hosts know when you leave…

I have never been asked to buy anything but have if it was easy and there is something I actually want or need - even if it is a very average bottle of wine but the principle for Britstops and France Passion is the same - no charge

Sorry, if I misunderstood what you were saying, but before you did say
Some pubs only serve alcohol and I may or may not drink that night but I like the system where I'm not obliged to and that's exactly what Brit Stops is.
I certainly have. Quite a few. Not all pubs sell food you know. Or are you suggesting I should buy peanuts, crisps etc.

Well it's certainly different than when I joined 12 years ago. Had hassle at a couple of places so vowed never to use FP again. Not missed them at all..
Also in reply to a previous poster, yes we use Aires all over France and done are chargeable and few are free and we always shop locally in the town/village/hamlet/city where we are staying and occasionally we use the restaurant and bars. I think the ONLY time we couldn't do that was on the Simplon Pass where it was a free Aire and the hotel was adjacent hotel was closed and there were no local shopping facilities. I did think about leaving a few euros on the floor to help.

‘struth,is this thread still going.........Yes it is.

I’m constantly amazed by the stamina of Funsters once they get a bee in their bonnet!    ;)

Excellent!

Strewth, you’re amazed that a thread can run for nearly a whole day. ?.

Have you not seen the Broken Link Removed thread? ?

Indeed,I have.............but that was funny (well, some of it).

There’s hope yet for Britstops to find humour....but don’t hold your breath.

Why not. £10 per night.
That would be a completely different situation and (valid) discussion but irrelevant to this thread.
…….. the principle for Britstops and France Passion is the same - no charge
Agreed, but they wouldn't join the scheme if they didn't anticipate that it would benefit their business.

We have used britstops for 2 years and find them very good as you get the option of travelling the uk with no pr-booked site to overnight at.
however I would not utilise a pubs car park if they are shut it’s just plain rude.
