Hi all,

looking for a breakdown / recovery that will also recover after an accident.

Just want to cover all bases as most only seem to recover for breakdown not as a result of any form of accident

would also like the towing off muddy fields etc

also to cover 8m / 4800kg

anyone got anybody covers above

Thanks

As far as I know they will all recover you after an accident (or maybe I just assumed they would, better check that ) But I'd doubt you'll find cover for towing you off a muddy field.
Happy to be corrected 😀

Also depends if the police want the road clear and not waiting till your company can come. They might decide who takes it and when and you have no choice.

They will all recover you, they just charge it to the insurance company. Usually however the insurers have their own contractors.

Green flag include towing you from anywhere even if specialist equipment is needed. Useful to have as the cost of heavy recovery is eye watering!

The Camping and Caravanning Club 'Arrival' breakdown cover, in association with the RAC will do all of what the OP is enquiring about.

So they'll recover after an accident and they'll recover from a muddy field too. (y)

Up to 350 days per year annual breakdown cover available as an option also.

At least my policy does - which has just been renewed. However, it would be worth checking carefully, because the C&CC/RAC are just making changes/adjustments to the cover.

Not sure CAMC will provide as long as 350 days continental breakdown? They weren't a couple of years ago, when we wanted the van left in Spain for six months, but it may have changed since then to match the C&CC offering on that score?

not sure that RAC Arrival does cover accidents, although muddy fields etc are in

assume that if an accident you ring insurance company for recovery

See attached covering letter that came with my renewed membership, which doesn't even start until 8 July.

Top left of the attached image: - FREE Accident Care. Then a little more detail below. "...so if you're involved in an accident we'll recover you..."

But as mentioned previously, you'd need to double check, because they are just starting to issue new policies.

RAC left me stranded for 5 hours and only turned up after repeatedly calling. You can imagine my response when they asked me to renew 😂😂😂

Hi, had a clutch failure on 28/7/2021, about 400yds from home. Rang RAC at 2pm no response until 4 pm told the little van could not recover my 5tonne vehicle so recovery truck sent for. The truck arrived at 1am, they then told me I was to heavy and to long and drove away. Rang RAC for clarification, was told the RAC had sent the wrong people and should have contacted RAC commercial, eventually recovered at 4.30 am. I am covered by the Camping and Caravaning Club Arrival policy which ststes for motorhomes no weight limit, no length limit. Not a happy bunny

Not exactly great service. It makes you wonder how they make such a dogs dinner of it. Supposed to be their bread and butter business for goodness sake.

Might be worth letting the Camping and Caravanning Club know of your experience - suggest you drop them an email if you haven't done already. I believe they do have a manager who is specifically responsible for the Club's relationship and liaison with the RAC.

I was talking to an AA mechanic a few years back. They get performance managed on everything, how many batteries they sell etc.

Also he reckoned calling out a big recovery truck was a big strike against them and they would only do it if they had no other options. Apparently they could tow you with the kit in their van and it was fine, obviously not an option with a Motorhome.

They will all recover from an accident, the vehicle is unusable so no different to a breakdown.
They won’t, the AA told me it would be fully chargeable as it was an accident and not a breakdown.
