Brake disc and pads for Fiat Ducato

I'm getting my discs replaced as they have developed a lip at the edge. Couple of trips down the Alps and the Pyrenees hasn't helped.

Is there a make that is better? I have heard that Brembo and Bosch are better than Fiat's standard OEM choice. On the basis that cost is less of a factor than actually stopping (!), what is the best make of brake disc that you can get for 15 inch rims on a Ducato (not Al Ko)? Is slotted or drilled, or vented what I need? I know sod all about brakes except that when I push the left hand pedal, the bus slows down. I'd like that to continue.

What about pads? Is there a 'best' option?

Go with the Brembo discs and pads. Forget drilled, as not required. Replaced all my discs and pads with Brembo last year, theyre great brakes and shouldn’t give you any problems at all

Heres the ones that fit my van, a 2006 Ducato but I have the Alko chassis, so not sure for your van, but put your reg number into here and it’ll give you an idea of what is available. Mine has what’s known as the top hat rear setup for the handbrake, but could well be different for yours.

Brembo on my car had to have the rear pads changed for Bosch due to noise. Squeal when rotating. Stopped when braking. Callipers stripped and no faults. Swapped for Bosch now all good
They are hard pads.

No brand name but they work well and for the price, i could change them every year if necessary.

When they were replaced on our Fiat chassis, the original ones were Brembo.

Our Peugeot Boxer left the factory with Bosch rear brakes and Brembo front. I replaced the front pads with TRW who are an original equipment supplier to many vehicle manufacturers.
The next time the Discs and pads are replaced I’ll be fitting Brembo.
Be careful where you buy from, counterfeit parts are out there.

Yes it's auto. Last time I used a clutch was 2018. Mrs DDJC has an old back injury so we haven't had manual for years.
And whether we move to electric or hydrogen, there will be no more need of clutch pedals.

We have a sprinter and always fit Mintex disc and pads and never had a problem

I also fitted Mintex disc and pads on my 2001 Fiat base Hymer about 5 years ago, got them off eBay at a good price but had a problem with them squealing, contacted mintx and they sent me anti squeal pads to stick on back of pads for free.

Mintex or Brembo but the guys at CoastalMotorHomes are quite knowledgeable about the chassis vehicles.

This was a timely post, been thinking about trying to improve the braking on my 2005 Hymer Ducato Alko and was going to look for advice on preferred pads/discs. So the recommendation seems to be Brembo or Mintex - for those that have gone this route Manic PP Bear - did you notice any improvement over what you had before?

Also, my B614 is a leftie, so registration is never recognised in any of the car part websites; any tips on sourcing the right parts first time?

You can put your vehicle details in on Eurocarparts and it should then list the parts. Being left or right makes no odds to discs and pads and you should find what you’re looking for.

I’ve suffered front brake pad’s delaminating on the factory fitted items and again when I replaced them and checked at a later date, hence switching to Brembo and no issues at all with them.

Brake Pad Change - 2006 Fiat Ducato

Just changed mine again to Mintex all round, pay extra for the coated ones as they will corrode much slower than just steel, assuming you have that option for your fiat,
also worth replacing the brake fluid while you are at it, again pay extra for the DOT5.1 fluid
over the older DOT 4, better for ABS systems and less hydroscopic that DOT4
