Autocruise Vista
Hi all
Wondering if anybody can help. We have the common speedo gear (probably it has the blue gear) failure on our 2002 1.9TD Boxer based Autocruise Vista.

I know the part is now very difficult to obtain. Does anybody have any suggestions.

I have seen a green gear and white gear set on ebay, can i replace with this set.

any help and suggestions are very much appreciated

thank you
Rob

Yes they will fit, however they will have differing drive teeth giving a different speedo reading, by how much who knows?

Hello many thanks for the suggestions

I will contact PaulandChrissy, but i don't have any specs/engineering drawings etc of the part. The failure is/was intermittent, so haven't been to the garage for investigation or extract the part.

As contingency, i am thinking to get the white/green set that are just about available, then if there is total failure, these could always be fitted to get a working system for MOT. Realise the gearing may give different speedo reading than the blue set (which i think is in my vehicle), but i can get a GPS unit for actual journeys.

Given the amount of demand i am surprised there is no aftermarket supplier

thanks again all

You could try a GPS app on your phone if its just the speed you want, edit just seen you post that!

Sorry cant help you other than perhaps a search on some breakers site, I have used a Dutch one for motorcycle parts and its been 70% cheaper than the UK, might be worth a google trawl given the weather! There you go Sunday sorted! Good luck

Hi Guys.
3D printing a gear and it’s mating gear looking at the pictures I’ve seen I fear would not work with the consumer printers and materials we have. I think the extreme conditions that they would have to endure would destroy them. There is also the issue of the design of the gear that would need to be spot on first time. No room for error. No original item to work from. A bit of a none starter unfortunately. There is a company that does make items like this from very exotic materials. They can even print metal. This still doesn’t get around the first hurdle, and that’s the design of the gears when; there is no original to work from.
I think the GPS speedo option is the best route. My son has fitted one to his old split screen VW camper. They work very well.

Hi all
Just a note to say thank you for all the suggestions. After some serious searching across Europe I managed to find enough parts to rebuild the gearbox end assembly (pinion, drive gear, housing, seals) - they are very scarce. And of course the speedo/odometer decided to come back to life on its own - assume square profile cable reengaged into the pinion!!

But i now have the critical spares for if/when it finally fails.

If anybody has similar issues, i am happy to share the part numbers/drawings/information etc
