We are going on a couple of months trip mid April through to the end of June. Route we are taking is Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and the ferry back to Italy. We will be doing sites, Aires and a bit of wild camping. Is it worth booking sites that time of year or just turn up. We don't really want to be held to dates. Thanks

You might struggle around Easter but I think you’ll be fine the rest of the time , there’s always a plan b though

We went to the popular Lake Bled camping in September and it wasn’t full. We just rang the day before to check as it is the only one by the lake. We only rang a couple of places the day before, another was a popular campsite outside Lauterbrunnen in Swittzerland, not Camping Jungfrau, and another campsite on Lake Maggiore just because travelling from Switzerland that day and with 2 outfits want to be sure.
In all cases there was room, but that’s what I suggest you do, ring up the day before or even in the morning around 11 am when the site knows who is leaving, but just for those places you really want to be and want to know that s where you will be that night. Otherwise, we just wing it and stop when we like.
Another site we very much liked before we left Italy for Slovenia, was Camping Fusina, right on the waterside opposite the skyline of Venice and with a ferry service over.
Have a great trip.

Thanks for replies. Forgot to add that we live in Spain, and will be getting the ferry from Barcelona to Genoa in Itay. Want to avoid France, the ferry is 400€ with a dog cabin.

I would suggest there is no need to book at that time of year.

We did Switzerland, Italy, Germany & Lake Bled in May this year. Lake Bled we booked in advance (having read about it being full a lot of the time) & we could only book by email - no phone calls accepted. If you have ACSI, let them know in the email request. Once you are there, it's easy to extend your stay. We were glad to have booked as every day lots of people were turned away.
We also found riverside campings in Germany were also full - we did not try to book any of these in advance, but might think about it if we did it again. We did find non waterside campsites pretty easy to find.
