I am planning a six week trip down to Croatia, via Camping Bled in Slovenia during September and October. I normally just plan a rough route and places of interest and turn up at sites as and when we decide to stop. We might book Camping Bled as it is always popular but do I need to book sites in Croatia? My copilot is concerned that they will be very busy/full due to the fact that you cannot park off grid.

I wouldn't book anything in Croatia in September or October, I've never found them full at that time of year.
Lots of options if you do find one full.

If you book you become a hostage to your own plans and this prevents detours or other options you find along the way.
Good luck, it's a lovely country to tour in.

I’d suggest that some sites you may need to book, but not necessarily now. For instance somewhere like camping Draga at Moskenica Draga will be busy until the end of September.

Last year we couldn't get into Camping Bled in late September - fully booked. Stayed at the site by the river about a mile and a half out of town.

Other than that, we didn't have a problem anywhere in Slovenia and Croatia throughout September and October. Some of the sites in Croatia are absolutely huge!

Make sure you have an ACSI card as it makes the fairly pricey sites on the coast much more reasonable.

Would the ACSI card work in Sept?

I ask because we are looking at driving to Greece next year instead of ferry Ancona-Patras, for two reasons: ANEK have stopped Camping on Board and the cost of Austrian tolls has nearly doubled.

Is there a fee for ACSI card as we might only use it in Croatia as we normally wildcamp?

All campsites have their own dates for when the off ACSI peak season starts and ends so you'd need to check individually.
There is a charge for the discount card and books, about 23 pounds I think, but you may get it for less from some retailers ?
