So I was driving in Transfagarasan mountain road twisties. Stopped to open the rear door and a can of tyre weld rolled out, landed on the gravel, exploded and sprayed foam all over the MH. I didnt realise until much later when washing it that this stuff is stuck on like glue!

How can i remove it? I tried heavy duty solvent cleaner. Only thing worked on one panel was a scourer and now that panel is all scratched up :(
Any tips on how to remove those scratches as well?

Feel like something from a Mr Bean skit

I'd try a very small area with acetone. It's fine on some paints but not on others so go very carefully

You can try T-cut but it really depends on how deep the scratches are, the worst case scenario is you might need to use a fine grade of wet or dry paper with a rubbing block and soap and water then a cutting compound then T-cut but it would probably be best if they don't come out with T-cut to get a mobile paint scratch person to do it for you.

Blimey, talk about bad luck, sorry to hear that it’s happened. Any photos so the Funster community can get a better idea of what’s required.

I had some stubborn marks and stains from a splash up the side of my motorhome and I tried everything to get it off, t-cut, resin polish, colour safe revival, nail polish remover, white spirt, the lot, you name it, I tried it. Finally tried auto chrome polish and it took it off with not much effort at all, plus it never cut into the paint, so must have something in it for chrome and maybe worth a shot.

Good luck 🤞🏻

Petrol may disolve it, I had a can of expanding foam blow over our car and petrol worked on that.

Try wd40 .spray it. on leave to soften and then rub into a ball with your finger until it comes off.

The can will have the ingredient chemicals written on it. A quick internet search will guide you to the solvent you need. Another search will reveal what else that solvent is likely to munch through as you clean the residue from the side of your vehicle.

Cheers!

I would be tempted to leave it until you get back home. The exterior of the MH probably had a layer of wax, dust and grime on it and the foam may fall off in time on its own.

A pressure washer might help but you risk removing paint and any decals.

I doubt any solvent will help. Tyre foam is either polyurethane or some sort of rubber polymer. Anything which will dissolve it will probably strip the paint off.

I’d be trying C-Tec Multisolve

Thanks for the replies.

Yes ive tried WD40.
Good tip about checking the ingredients, ive written to Holts to ask them whats in it and how to remove. Internet says its water-based and easily removable but i can tell you ive removed decals, glue, oil, stickers, all easier than this.

My mechanic said to use brake cleaner. What do you think? He's not the most dilligent of folk.
I like the idea of the chrome polish. Ive got some Brasso and silver stuff as well, so can try that. I was thinking something with some grit in it like rubbing compound might work.

Ill try petrol first as thats the quickest to get hold of and update accordingly in a few days

I got some on my scooter after using it , on swinging arm & mudguard , got a screw in tyre , the stuff came out the hole in the tyre and covered the back wheel area , it’s still there 4 years later & hard as nails , good luck

I had a can strapped to my motorbike handlebars, riding into Barmouth, it failed where rubbing, and covered the front of my jacket, never managed to fully removed it all.
Also tried the supplied foam in a Vauxhall combo tyres several times, never worked. Seems the van was overloaded and the flats were on the inside of the tyres when it wore through!

Isopropanol Alcohol IPA 99.99%

I have no idea if this will help but I discovered this last year after reproofing mywaterproof coats in the washing machine my drum became coated in wax. Never happened before in many years of reproofing coats in the machine. I use it for all sorts now. Large bottles from Amazon

Great stuff but don't drink it whatever you do  it's poisonous.
