Didn't expect to see a blue cable connected to the positive terminal. Is this just random, and of no consequence, or should I be investigating. I can't determine where the cable goes, and everything seems to work fine. It's a Pilote, and was like this when we bought it, (second owners).

Picture if it helps.

But that wouldn't be connected to the battery terminal would it?

My garden tractor (Hayter aged 25 yrs) has had Red for positive and Blue for negative snap fit connectors since new.

Yes, the leisure battery has the blue wire attached to the positive terminal. The current goes from there to the Schaudt unit and is then distributed to the various 12v services, lights, pump etc.

My
motorhome wiring conforms to no know code
too true especialy if messed about with by a dealer. My batteries and CBE 300 were all in Black wire positive and negative. I slipped brown heatshrink over the positives and black over the black negative (last not particularly visible but now a known polarity and marked as such). My use of brown being positive and the european use for negative makes me think a polarity test is always neccessary if brown or blue wires are encountered.

Quite common in German van's. Always check polarity 12v colour are not the same as British one's

You missed the best one - black is positive on German MHs, but negative on UK MHs. Enjoy :giggle:

Think our Elddis negatives are white 🤔

That's normal, brown for negative is logical, negative is ground/earth and the colour of earth is brown.

OK, I surrender. Sorry I asked now.....

As a teenager I needed to charge my motorbike battery. I got Dad's charger out of the shed and it had two leads with clamps, one red and the other black.

However, it didn't have a 3-pin plug (Dad often just depressed the earth slider with a matchstick and stuck bare wires into the L & N sockets :( ). So I wired it up with red-positive, black-negative and the TWO green wires to earth). There was one h3ll of a BANG when I switched on and the house lost all electricity.

As Dad pointed out, If I'd "followed" the wires I'd have seen that the red and black both joined to the metal case of the charger with a big nut and bolt; the green wires disappeared through a plastic housing and "it doesn't matter which is L or N because they go to a transformer".

Lesson learnt: trust nothing!

Take nothing for granted and ignore colours (unless you put them in yourself) some just use whatever they have.
