Just looking
Hi funsters.
Have an upcoming trip.
From the North east, 2 nights at lodge farm cs near Harrogate, 2 at little stryne cs near Derby then 6 nights at Severn gorge park at Telford (will be visiting Blist hill Victorian town).
On way back, 2 nights at Narrow bridge cottage near Retford Notts, 2 at Craken house farm cl, then home.
Will post a review of it later. (Got one to do for our 1st trip yet which we've just come back from).
But, was wondering if we arranged a stay at Clent Hills ccc, would we be able to get a bus from Romsley (which is an easy walk from the site) to Dudley to take in the Black country living museum?
If anyone knows please comment.
Happy Jack.

I grew up in Romsley!

Bus to Halesowen then on to Dudley and then down to the museum. Not straightforward I’m afraid and it looks like the Romsley-Halesowen bus only runs every 2 hours. 50 years ago, it was every hour 😂

Have a look on Google maps set to ‘bus’ mode.

Hi Janine. Didn't know Google maps could be set to bus mode. Will explore that but sounds like would have to time things just right. We would prefer to leave van on site and walk or bus around. Especially since we can use our bus passes.
Have been to Beamish a few times so would expect Black country living museum to be similar but it all adds to our campaigning experiences, if which we are recent arrivals.
Happy Jack.

Perhaps I should have known. Have used it in walking mode befire.

entry to blists hill covers some other sites as well, ironbridge gorge museum and coalport museum and museum of iron all have carparks you should be able to get parked in if mh not too big

You can get a passport ticket which covers all of the other museums or you can pay individually.

There used to be a shuttle bus between them but not sure if it’s still operating.

Last time I went, they had started charging for the carparks which I think is a bit mean considering how much the tickets cost.

I use Google maps to find bus times and routes quite often, find where you are, and zoom in to show bus stops in your area, then "click" on the stop and it'll show you the times, click on the time and it'll show you the route 👍

Caravan club used to get u a discounted entey but check it out beforehand. On the day just the membership card did not work.

Thanks everone.
Have purchased pass plus (today)for Blist hill which gives priority access to all attractions and we are staying at Severn gorge park (booked recently)which is an easy walking distance to the main site. The rest look walkable also.
If we do consider a visit to Black country museum we could stay at Clent Hills ccc and get a bus from Romsley up to Dudley.
We are local to Beamish and our "Friends of Beamish" membership ends in a couple of months. Will visit another couple of times, it's a good day out.
Have used Google maps on my phone for walking but never thought of the bus option. Will start using it to get used to it.
Happy Jack.

Blist Hill is a good day out we enjoyed it, nice pub and fish shop there too.

Thanks Caz, looking forward to it.
Seems Blist Hill Victorian town is smaller than Beamish but the other attractions being spread about we will have plenty to see and we will enjoy walking between them. them
We are there for 5 nights. We will find plenty to do in the area.
Happy Jack.

On a recent visit to the black country museum I noted that there is a big open car park with no height barriers. You pay a fixed sum on exiting the main foyer by contact less credit card (3.50) to get a car park exit token.
However a lot of the site is shut off for the 50's and 60's section development which seems to be largely complete.
It will be much better when the fences are down, didn't understand why they were so intrusive when its all within a secure area-perhaps they hsd a lot of spare timber to use up, and i mean a lot!.
Also due to a problem with an electrical pole the trolley buses were not running this on 1st May.
Beamish 9/10
BLMC 6/10

Mike and Ann

Mike, does BLMC refer to Black country living museum ? If so then why only 6/10 compared to 9/10 for Beamish ? We like Beamish but if Black country isn't as good then would think twice.
Caz, If blitz hill Victorian town is a lot smaller than Beamish then I hope the other attractions help to while away out time.
Happy Jack.

Been a good many years since either of us went there, but you used to get a 'Passport' which included entry to other local area museums including the Coalport pottery, a cast iron place the other side of the river, a place where the encaustic tiles had been made - was that Jackfield? and also other things. At Blists Hill there was also a steam operated fairground, but they didn't get steam up every day. To get over the river by car you had to drive quite a way to get to a normal road bridge, since the Iron Bridge itself can only be crossed on foot.

Bridgnorth, down the river from Ironbridge, is a nice place to visit. Severn Street parking in low town near river then walk up into high town. Severn Valley railway close by.

It’s lovely. The Cliff Railway sadly is out of action due to a dodgy supporting wall which our town council and county council are each trying to get out of paying for.

Cartway is a steep road up to High Town but has a lovely pub half way up 😉

Thanks Caz, looking forward to it.

I found Blist Hill was much better when the 'enactors' were there but busier, probably worth checking?

I used to be a volunteer in the print shop at Blists Hill 😀

We visited Blists Hill about 25 years ago, I said to the guide in the printworks that I'd seen that model of the Eagle press once before, he said "That's doubtfull, as the only other one he knew of was in Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands" that's where we'd seen it and we had a "WANTED" poster printed of the wife's Inspector that she put up in the Nick when we got back, it didn't stay up long, but he took it home and had it framed !

Funny 😄

It’s a Columbian Press and they have one in the M Shed museum in Bristol - you have to do the ‘behind the scenes’ tour to see it. The guide was amazed that I knew what it was 😀

Funsters, we have a "pass plus" which gives us priority entry and entry to all the other locations. There's 9 of them I think but 1 closed for renovation and 3 closed until high season starting on 3rd July. We will walk between the attractions as we want to leave the van on site and to visit Bridgenorth we would check if there is a bus to it.
Happy Jack.

Been to the Black county museum and they have allowed us to park overnight in the car park.Bit Erie as they lock you in overnight but security come round and check if you are ok,well worth a fisit

British ironworks centre and Shropshire sculpture park (everything made of iron or recycled old spoons, railway bits and even amnesty handed in weapons).
Not far from Ironbridge (in car).
