We are keen wild campers and are presently in Zaragoza on our winter expedition with our Hymer B878SL and the level warning lights on our black water tank have stopped working and I don't remember the capacity of the tank. I shall do all the usual checks such as fuses, but if I know the capacity of the tank I can plan an emptying regime. I seem to remember it was 45 litres and can work around that capacity, but if anyone knows the actual capacity it would be a big help.

Is it a ‘new to you’ Motorhome? If yes, I understand your challenge… if you’ve had it a while, surely you’ve got into a cycle of emptying after and average of X days? Can you not just carry on that regime?

If we use the black tank full time we anticipate a week's capacity, but we don't usually usd it full time.

Hi
You mean the cassette toilet ?
If so 2/3days not sure of how much it hold , just remove and fill the weight will give a good indication.

When you say black water is it the toilet tank or waste water?

The black tank is seperate to the cassette and sucks the contents of the cassette so you can wild camp for longer.

I think you might mean grey water. When it comes up in the shower it's full (y).

If it's a black (Toilet) water tank you'll know when you're full, but by then you will be 100% full.

OK I'm with you. You have a dual system, black tank and cassette. Sorry I'm not sure what size the additional black tank is. What year is it? It will be at least 3 times your cassette capacity so your 45L guess will probably be about right.

Our 2007 S800 has a black tank , I always thought it was bigger but the manual says 45 litres, we can just get 4 nights 👍

With my cassette, I just pull back the slider from inside the toilet, is that too easy? 😄

If it is a Thetford then 45litres is the usual capacity .I had one in my last coach built but it never had any means of remote level monitoring.

Jeez, only four nights to fill 45 liters.
How many are you.
We used to get that from a cassette if we tried.

Whatever I have done in life there always seems to be have been someone telling me how to do it better 🤔

The macerator uses more water than you would need in a cassette , but other than that we are OK with a four day empty routine 👍

There are 6 of us most trips though

That sounds like an over complication with more parts and pumps to go wrong.

Is there some reason it can't it go straight into the black holding tank? 🤔

THe black holding tank empies in the same way as your grey tank, which is through a valve & pipe at the side of the van, so this tank is not removable, unlike the cassette. The black tank is great for wild camping, as with just the two of us we can go 2 weeks without emptying.

My cassette is 18L, 3x18 was 54L when I was in school, but it's been a while so they may have changed it.

Everyone knows, that only those really full of it, should fill to more than around 15L of poo; before they macerate it into the tank. I didn't do much school, but I reckon if that's the case You can do that around three times for the 45L holding tank.

To show my workings I added line 5 and line 10 to get to 15 (y)

But, if the cassette is 18L capacity, how do you know when it is at 15L? Do you use a dipstick? The level indicator seems to go from green to red without warning. Much like the grey water tank level, don't get me started on that one....

The Thetford I had was a straight black tank with no facility for maceration. Just needed to use a drive over waste disposal point.
