Was it a Marathon or a 10k.? or perhaps a training run?

We didnt see any runners in September, which surprised me as it had been on the TV showing people camping in the area just waiting for an opportunity to get on a ferry

We came back via Bilbao October and didn't see any even though we were delayed by 4 hours

Lots of vans/lorries staying overnight and we never saw another runner.

Really quiet peaceful and had a great nights sleep.

Saw 3 walk past our van window about ten,,they smiled and waved,,,BUSBY,,

Here’s the plan..... the ferry leaves Bilbao at 10:30 so planned on staying over the night before.According to the info it says the port is closed at 19:00 so shouldn’t it be safe. We usually use Santander.
Opinions of a sensible nature please (fat chance):roflmto:and alternatives.

If you arrive before 1600 hrs queue at book in kiosks. They usually open one kiosk up at 1600 hrs to book you in and let you into the departure car park. Toilet open and wi fi available. Cafe open 0700 hrs. If you arrive late and kiosk is closed park in outer car park. BUSBY..

So is it the outer car park that seems to be the problem?

Stay at an Aire within 90 mins and drive to port at 7:30. Arrive at 9am with 90 mins time for boarding.

Didn't have any bother,,,Few illegals about but not a threat. They were trying to get in the trailer compound but plenty of Police and security around. Much the same as Caen and Dieppe.BUSBY.

If you worried about whats going on in the world you would never leave home..Unless you have a van with a garage without security no one is going to stow away. Its not a big task to do a quick search just in case before you board..BUSBY.

We have a large black dog who doesn’t bark, bless her, unless the sound of a wagging tail hitting the wall puts people off. But she does let us know if anyone is around by getting excited that visitors are coming and might have biscuits

Quite agree with that.

But why have the hassle ?

60-90 mins away, peace and quiet alongside other fellow motorhomers.

They have moved away from Calais because of intense security and removal of The Jungle,,If they can't access the other Ports they will move to Truck Stops and if they wanted to target Motorhomes (which is a poor option) don't you think they will find aires. I personally have no worries about them because they could not hide in or on my van without me noticing,,,but everyone to their own,,BUSBY

I was parked behind @busby in the queue and slept well. Never heard a thing. (y)

Great Busby, we got here at 14:00 and at15:30 gates opened, no problems, we’re now here with about ten other MH’s no problems seems a good place to stay. WiFi red hot!
Will report back in the morning, but honestly can’t imagine any reason to be worried. We’ve just taken Ebony for a little walk, no probs.
I think the people who complain just want the place to themselves:D

We’ve been so lucky, not aware of any problems overnight. Took Ebony out at ten last night and again at six this morning. Saw nobody. I guess we’ve been lucky.
Going on our experience I’d definitely use Bilbao again.
