Hello,

Can you park up in the check-in lanes overnight before the morning check ins open? Also, are the toilets open?

Or, best stopover nearby please. Stayed in Haro last year but would like somewhere nearer.

Thanks.

We came back through Bilbao in September and read that overnight in the car park was no longer permitted so we didn't try. We stopped in Ribadisella which is two hours from Bilbao. But we had the advantage of being on an evening sailing. On the way in, we stayed by the hostel in Bilbao. There was space there, but not a lot.

Have you got the P4N (Park for night) or Searchforsites App’s? They are a fantastic tool to use. Also, there’s a stunning municipal site overlooking Bilbao and if you have the time it’s worth visiting the centre, there’s a bus which runs from just outside the entrance (No 58 I believe)

I don't believe you can.

We've done that aire that mikenpauline mentioned twice. A bit of a scramble to get in, vans waiting everywhere but that view over Bilbao is worth it.

Last year we stayed at Vitoria Gasteiz, it was an easy drive in just over an hour.

We're at the parking place/campsite above Bilbao at the moment it's really chucking it down. The address is 124A Kobeta Bides, 48002 Bilbao. There's electricity and water on each pitch and 1 toilet for the site, bus into town every 20 minutes if you can swim (it's that wet)

My search for sites app showed a motorhome overnight stop at the port last November.
We didn't use it though. Stayed 2 nights on a lovely campsite on the other side of the estuary.

Stayed here a few years ago. Parking immediately on the left at the top of the drive. Walk down the drive and book in at the hostel and you can use the hostel facilities, showers, kitchen, TV room etc.
Walkable into the city.

May last year we parked overnight in the check in lanes, probably 3-4 mororhomes, no problem
Brittany ferries said the car park was also ok
Sounds like it’s all changed?
May contact BF and see what they say?

I have S4S but someone showed me an aires book where there is an aire linked to a hostel. Will check that out.
Thanks

Hi.

I emailed the same question to BF a couple of days ago. Their reply was to refer me to the info above on their website.

We are on the 1pm ferry a week on Saturday and intend to stay overnight at the port based on their own information.

I'll let you know how we get on.

We are on that ferry too, but staying at Haro on the way up.

Bailey Adamo with a scooter on a trailer. Say hello👍

First time in Bilbao was coming off the ferry 0800 on Tuesday morning this week. As I was in the queue of ferry traffic for the immigration checks, to my right I saw a large parking area that had quite a lot of Motorhomes in it. I did think they must have been there overnight to be there at that time of day & likely waiting for the vessel we were on to turn around?

A couple of years back l was having trouble with my then MH managed to limp into Bilbao only to watch the Ship sailing off. I had broken down 5 times getting there from Gib in one year old MH. I couldn’t risk driving off so staid the five days awaiting the ferry’s return. Spoke to BF staff no problem. I was towing a car so we could get out and about.Interestingly we had company two others joined us.

You can stay overnight at the port, it is well sign posted to the parking, (before the check in).
Quiet and safe, the shuttle bus to bilbao starts again on 1/April.
Easy parking with a car attached.

If it's just a park-up that you want the car park at Zierbena is fine and convenient for an early ferry. See P4N. There are a couple of eateries in walking distance, but they were closed in the evening when we there in Oct 2023.

We are now back in the UK having taken the Bilbao to Portsmouth ferry on Saturday at 1pm and, as promised, this is how we spent the night before.

The check-in barriers were down and the kiosks closed when we arrived on Friday afternoon. We parked in a lane infront of the barriers and spent the night there with half a dozen other vehicles. The toilets next to the bar were open. The police patrolled and no one asked us to move.

Hope this helps others on future crossings.
