It will say on the box, but it depends on what type it is, what it is made of and how it is mounted.

Depends on a lot of things.

How is it mounted ? Towball ? Rear wall? or one of those frames held on with straps that are illegal outside the UK?
How many bikes is it designed for ? Work on about 20kg per bike.
What does it say on the instructions ? Many have a weight limit printed in the side of the frame.

If you are thinking you might put a motorbike on a cycle frame, think again.

Just because the bike rack can take a particular weight doesn't mean what it is fixed to can take the same weight (e.g. the rear wall of a coach built). And you also need to take account of the weight of the rack itself.
