Just been hit with £70 fine for parking in wrong bay. Drove into Weymouth Swannery car park, no height barrier and parked our 6.2m van near another van. Parked at edge with rear overhanging edge so well clear and in the bay. Pouring with rain, rushed to pay machine, £6 for three hours. Got back well in time and found fine notice! Went back to pay machine and yes...at the very top of a sign nearby about a dozen 3inch symbols saying what could and could not park there and of course no motorhomes. On the way out looked for motorhome bays but could not see them, very annoyed with me and them. Last time we spend money in Weymouth.

Same thing happened to me in Carlisle. I'd parked the motorhome in a bay, the back of which dropped down into a river, so the overhang wasn't hindering anyone and I'd been parking there previously for about 5 years, but the Council decided to change the criteria and just added a bit of extra text to the bottom of their terms and conditions.

it in most car pk in weymouth. portland rd car pk beach is ok as no bays

The program Million Pound Motorhomes said it was one of the fastest growing ind with around 250,000 units sold last year, surely the tight ar@ed councils should see the revenue that they could gain from the boom in the industry. A few quid spent on facilitating us all, could bring in much needed wonga for them.

Are you going to write and complain? Especially as you were in the bay

What a stupid regulation. Busy tourist destination in a small village location, narrow roads and coastal route is probably one of the most scenic driving routes in England. Exactly the kind of location for MH facilities! Just imagine what Abbotsbury would be like if folks took to parking MHs on the narrow roads. Lorry deliveries to the Spa Shop already create mayhem.

Yes, will start out saying how much we liked Weymouth and that we went back to the car park to add more time. Saw the fine notice, left immdiately so did not get to spend even more money there.

Similar happened to me in Lincolnshire, although the sign didn’t say no motorhomes
My ticket was for taking up two spaces.
I complained by appeal and said I would only fit in two spaces and what did they suggest?
The answer was I should have bought two tickets.
My response was that I still would have talked up two spaces which is what I was being fined for, they replied “no further action”So it is worth appealing and don’t be put off by by the first, inevitable. Knock back.
Good luck

My mate has had a small car & van sales garage for almost 14 years.

Parked his cars on the much wider part of the pavement nobody ever, ever uses. The width is about 9 meters then narrowing to another 3.

It brings him good business from passing trade. He sold a motorhome of mine and had some interest in a minivan I had parked there!

After 14 years, new warden comes along and tells him he has to move them.

Wonder if an Asian guy would have the same problem ?.
