I'm looking to fit a water filter to my motorhome, does anyone have any recommendations? Tia

I bought this filter and filter housing along with this tap and other bits and bobs to install them for just under £100.

Filters last for 12 months and replacements are under £37 and remove pretty well everything.

I assume that you only need to filter the water you drink?
In that case, get a filter jug and keep it in the fridge. In the summer, chilled water can be most refreshing. Filter costs are also much cheaper.

It was for filtering my tap water for Drinking when we travel abroad
If you're referring to Europe, their tap water standards are as good as ours.

Our strategy is to fill the tank with water for washing. But we don't drink from the onboard taps. Instead we fill a water dispenser with tap water and keep it in the fridge. Then we've got some bottled water for backup.

I suppose it depends where abroad you are travelling and what you want to achieve.

I have worked in the Water Industry for 41 years now as a process engineer /scientist. Like Guigsy says the water in Europe is at least as good if not better than the UK. If you are going to places where you need to take water from Rivers, streams and lakes then you will need some proper kit and expect t0 pay over £1000 for anything effective

If you just want to remove tastes then a simple Carbon filter helps but it doesn't help with bacteria (in fact will make it worse)

I think you should read the small print in the section 'IMPORTANT'

Again depends what you are trying to achieve. Personally I wouldn't bother because we never drink water from the tank. We prefer beer and wine and for coffee and tea use bottled water if off grid. Systems like this will remove stuff but no way they are good enough to rely on if the water is contaminated.

HI gpat, it was more for the hangover in the morning after all the beer and wine. 😉🤣

I put our system in because we were tired of going to buy bottled water, lugging it about and it taking up storage space, whereas now we take our drinking water from our fresh water tank via the filter to a dedicated tap next to our kitchen sink.
If we change our MH at any time, then fitting a filtered water system would be one of the first things I would do.
It's not that we do not trust water from the country that we are travelling in, it just erring on the side of caution with the water in our fresh water tank that can get pretty warm when the water in it is sitting in there for a few days, and the worry that it can maybe become a breeding ground.
The other thing is that you can taste the difference from the filtered water and we very much like the taste of it.

There was an old thread on this where some Funsters had proof of some of the manufacturers using sub-standard filter cartridges?
The kind of system where you T off your water supply and add a dedicated drinking water tap on your work top.

That was the Nature Pure system where they were scamming customers with cheap dodgy filter inserts passing them off as the correct ones.

I have had the Nature pure system in my last 2 vans as we don't want the ag of bottled water. Never had a problem drinking the filtered water and if anyone was going to have a problem it would be Mrs Diabalo. I get my filters from Midland chandlers which are the correct ones.

I have to be honest and whilst there are some decent filters out there, a big portion of the market is exploiting peoples fears and selling them something they don't really need.

I agree with all of the above this is why I want to install a Water Filrer system in our motorhome. Thanks for your input.

I use a Berkey water purifier...

Hi JJ, I have seen these online. I like the idea but don't have a lot of workspace to accommodate it. Where do you keep/store yours? Thanks

But we are not talking about water directly from a main tap, for the OP and myself, it's about taking drinking water from the water tank on our MH's.

Mine sits by my cooker top when parked and then the top "nests" into the lower section when on the move...

Of course, if you have a house, you can move it (and use it) in(to) your bricks and mortar kitchen when you get home

If your tank is clean then the two things are the same aren't they. Where do you think your tap water comes from?

A tank.

We had a property in the mountains in southern Spain and our water was from a ground level spring on the land. As we hadn't had the water tested to confirm it was good for drinking, we installed a RO system and, whilst making the water good for cooking etc, it tasted awful as it actually tasted of absolutely nothing, so we still used bottled water for drinking.

How often do you change them? They aren’t cheap are they, I have the same system and now I’m looking to change the filter for next season as I don’t know how old the present filter is👍

RO water always tastes like nothing. Because it has all the ions removed. It's not nice.

I have a couple of 5ltr water bottles that I keep in the van and use that for tea/coffee and any cooking. Just fill them up when on site as you are never that far from a tap.
Have small bottles of water in the fridge that I drink during the day, they are very cheap in Europe.

Nature Pure filter and tap, best baught from a marine supplier/chandler as a complete kit. Make sure the filter is micro - the latest standard, very effective, wouldn't be without one.

We drink the water from the water tank, saves faffing about with storing/ filling bottles etc.

Absolutely for me, a must when we tour abroad ..only one water level to keep an eye on !
