Hi All

I think the title says it all.

MOT said some of my tyres are cracking and looking at them, some seem to have real splits in places.

Looking to have them replaced on my drive but was wondering if the good people here could recommend best ones for UK all weather driving?

Lots of different answers on the way probably.
Depends how you're going to use it, or not.
Me I go for a good van tyre, recently replaced the fronts with Nexen Rodian which when I get back from this trip (4000? mls) will go on the back and back ones replaced with Same, and put on the front.

Check what your axle loadings are, and then make sure the tyres you pick can take at least that load. E.g. if your axle is 2000kg, then you need tyres that are at least 108 load rating:

I also agree that van tyres are better than camper specific. They ride much quieter and seem to last just as well and are generally cheaper. I got Continental VanContact 4Season. Main reason being that Continental publish a manual where you can look up axle loads for each of their tyres and it tells you the pressure required. So I can run 50psi instead of the 80psi stated in my van's handbook.

Okay, ready for a really dumb question?

My current tyres are 215/70R15CP 109.

What does the 109 stand for/indicate?

Was looking at a Michelin Agilis 3 215/70 R15 S (107)

109 is the load rating. Those tyres can cope with 2060kg across the axle.

The Michelins with 107 load rating would give you 1950kg across each axle. Which is fine, provided your VIN plate doesn't say that one of your axles can carry more than that.

Indicates the load rating for tyre in kgs. There are tables, if you Google it.

What a great site, someone actually answered my question BEFORE I asked it!

Okay, I need 109's as my rear axle is rated at 2Kg and front axle at 1850Kg

Hmmm, like the idea of running lower pressure as specified by the manufacturer!

Don't suppose you could give me the link please?

Doing this backwards I know!

Went onto Continental website and it says to check my vehicle manufacturers handbook for the correct tyre pressures!

Oops.

Can anyone help point me at were the advisory pressures are on Continentals website?

All ordered, not the cheapest prices but coming to my drive to fit 4 tyres early next week. Went for the Continental VanContact 4Season.

Thanks for all the help.

Robin
Just make sure you tell them it’s o we 3,500kg.

The lad that came to fit our Frankish ones,5t said he could not lift it.

He had a two ton trolley jack but wouldn’t lift a corner.

I ended up in a truck garage

Had my Roadians on for 2 yrs now... and 2 back and forth trips to the Algarve in our tag axle Frankia in that time ...really impressed with them..

Some....good & bad!
My tyre fitter recommended Continental Vancontact Eco for my 3850kg Bailey.
Must say at 55/65psi they are way quieter than the stupidly overinflated camper tyres which were on there before. Very happy with them.

from what I can see in the manuals people have pointed me at, looks like Continental recommend 65PSI for my new tyres, quite a reduction from the 72PSI front and 80PSI back recommended by Burstner.

Really should improve ride no end I am hoping! :)
