I'm a newbie
I would like to ask your opinion on the best time of year to buy a Motorhome. I feel it would make sense to go shopping in wintertime and not in high season. I would be grateful for any suggestions, I am looking for a larger size MH yet I am a single retired man...I am a first time buyer so any suggestions welcome Thank you in Advance

Financially, if purchasing a new one, get in before the NEC show prior in October when next year's prices are revealed has worked rather well for me twice !

In recent times, there hasn’t really been a good time at any point in the year - supply has been short, prices have been high, so as mentioned above once you find what you want, its a good time.

I suspect high interest rates might cool the market a touch, but I dont see massive price corrections. Are you looking new or second hand?

We purchased a couple of months ago after moniutoring the market on the model we wanted for ~ 4 months. Bsaically they ALL sold near enough (every one up for sale, and the price trend was upwards). So as such buying sooner for us worked, as the model we have with "less" extras is now £4k more before you negotiate on the sale! As the dealer put it, when the new model of same type is ~ £30k more, the price will increase on the nearly new market,.

If buying an older van at the budget end of the market best time to buy would be October to March.

Good vans up to 6 or 7 years old will always fetch a good price at any time of year.

Well I would spend up to @€55.000 or approx £50.000. so it would be second hand I could go a bit higher for the right home

I reckon you would have more choice towards the end of the season, and a dealer might be slightly more motivated to do some sort of a deal, but I suspect its marginal.

The most important thing is finding the right van for what you want - that will save you a fortune …(as you wont be looking to change it after the first few trips )

As long as your going to use it right away to find the faults, then anytime when you see the right one
But if you buy in winter don’t just let it sit there and eat into your guarantee or warranty before you find faults or repairs needed 👍

To reiterate what Ernesto just wrote - get the right ‘van for you the first time if you can…..we had three in 4 years before getting the one that suited us best……!!!
Remember, the most important three things (IMHO) are

Layout, Layout, Layout!! (y)

Seriously though. If buying now I would aim for a good brand with the layout that I think would serve best and about 6 years old, low mileage.

Good point ….something that’s Euro 6 compliant would potentially give you more options, but wouldn’t trump layout
