Vino tinto, help please, needed in quantity for wedding. There's too much choice in supermarkets, I can't possibly try them all, a few pointers would be much appreciated. Thank you (hiccup, I have been sampling)

A lot of people like The Guvnor from Mercadona. We also like Zagalin from Aldi. It all depends how much you want to pay.

But we normally buy 5 Ltr boxes of bodega wine. Easy to transport as not as heavy as bottles.

Brilliant thanks, I can try those 2 suggestions I've never been to a bodega, bit nervous about the experience, just have to put my big girls pants on and give it a go. 😀

I can agree about The Guvnor red - very drinkable - but I didn’t know Mercadona stock it. You can buy it in the UK from Majestic (£8.99, down to £6.99 on mix 6) but I imagine Mercadona will be cheaper!

Carboneras, but starting to head back tomorrow, not sure of route yet, probably inland a bit, but I'm flexible

Some of the Bodegas near us (Mazarron, Alhama de Murcia) are shops, not the actual wineries, so aren't at all off-putting to walk into. We're staying on the motorhome parking right Iin the middle of the wine industrial area of Valdepeñas tonight. We'll be having a look at whats on offer tomorrow before we move on. You can get some good wines for half the price you'd pay in the UK.

I appreciate that this post isn't exactly perfect but;
If you go into any Mercadona, their display is, more or less
the same.
ie they have glass bottles on both sides of the isle.

However, if you look a little along the isle, after the glass
bottles there will be a display of plastic bottles and tetra packs
both containing wine. They are obviously at the cheap end of choice.

It is not those I am suggesting you buy but in that part of the display
you will find 1Lt bottles of a Temporanillo graped wine,(there is also a similar sized
bottle of a named grape variety in White but we don't have it)

From memory the name on the bottle is El Egido.
Also from memory, it's the only glass bottle in that section.

I can say however that this wine is just as good as The Guvnor, cheaper than the Guvnor
and you get a Lt. instead of .75Lts

Thanks to pj650 you came up trumps, the wine is labelled Elegido. It was a shade over 2 emus for a litre.

This is just what I needed, brilliant. So I've got:
The Govnor
Zagalin
Con un Par
Temporanillo
El G..... I'll find it 😀
Think if I buy a mixture of these the job is done. And relax, I've been really worried I'd wreck the reception. 😀 Thank you all again

We like this one.

I’ve seen it in Mas-y-Mas. We bought ours from the MediMart (?) in Beni, but it’s probably in other supermarkets too. €3.15 when we bought it.

You need to invest in a sack truck to move it all easily.

Successful morning, just a few more to get. 😀 These are for us to "sample" as we move slowly north. Going to buy in bulk before we cross into France. 🍷🍷Thank you all so much again, really grateful

So spill the beans, which was the outright favourite?

I have just brought back 3L boxes of valdepeñas red and white from Consum £7:40 a box. Has its own tap fitted so very handy and quick to pour if for a wedding bar as jumartoo said earlier easy to stack and transport.
Good luck
Cheers Cris.

DaVIDA from Mercadona is a great wine for an eye watering €3.90 a bottle. Very drinkable and no sulphites if that kind of stuff bothers you. £8 / £9 a bottle at home if you can find it.

Remember you have to declare it if you are coming into the UK.

Can anyone recommend some nice white and rose? Many thanks
