A couple of weeks time we are off to France, Spain and Portugal for 6 weeks.

What is flavour of the month for a SIM card deal for roaming using my Huawei Mifi unit attached to a 4G roof aerial? We are not users of huge amounts of data, but will need more than the 12Gb per month roaming allowances on each of our phones which Smarty allows. Do not want a long contract, rather one that renews monthly, like our Smarty SIMS. Looking at Lebarra SIm which would give us 30Gb per month. That is as far as I have got.

We will mainly in Spain and Portugal. We used to be able to get a 15 or 30 day unlimited SIM from NOS in Portugal, but I am not sure that it will cover Spain as well. We will be going to Spain first and then onto Portugal probably, so is there anything similar in Spain?

100gb abroad for £20

Thanks. But I have seen some bad comments about them. Seems they make mistakes? Even Jim has complained about them.

As VXMan says, RWG is good.

Some people seem to have had issues, but we have been using 2 of them in France, Spain and Portugal since beginning of November and only had 1 issue when we lost connection. We contacted RWG and they rectified it within 24 hours.

We use Popit in our MiFi 100Gb per month for £25, suspend any time for £1 per month and no limit in EU.

Works well but you must activate and use in UK before travelling to the EU. Their fair use policy is easy to comply with on return.

IQ Go

You buy the sim for £20 for a year, then buy bolt-ons as you need them. I normally go for 100gb for £20, as we're big data users. No contract, stop and start when you like. I use ours in a TP Link. Never had any issues with it in France, Spain, Germany, UK.

I will be keeping my Smarty SIM card in my phone. This one goes in my Mifi, which I only use in Europe. So it is important to be able to switch payments on and off. We will be going over again in the autumn, so can we just reactivate?

Smarty has a very measily 12gb limit per month in EU OP is looking for 100gb. That's why we switched to Popit.

I am the OP. I am happy with Smarty for our phones when we are in UK. Not that much data used when we are out and about and I get 40Gb for £9. But we need more than 12Gb each when in Europe. So I just want a SIM that I can use in MiFi to give more. I have never said I wanted 100Gb, just seeing whats on the market

Hi Peter, not sure about switching on and off, maybe worth an email to them to ask - we have one in Mifi and the other in a phone as a dual sim as Vodafone UK only offers 25gb whilst abroad, and only for a max of 4 months concurrently.

I’m currently using the RWG 200gb (100gb in the EU) ‘Big Data’ £20 pcm SIM in a Teltonika router, and on the west coast of Portugal recently had 124.0Mbps down and 34.6Mbps up through my iPhone on WiFi to it, which is incredibly fast. It’s worked well coming down through France and Spain and I have no issues with it.

Have been using the Tiekom 400GB card since November in Spain/ Portugal and now just into France, it hasn’t missed a beat, Camino at Tiekom is a excellent person to deal with, she answers your email usually within the hour,

Do I have to pick up the SIM in Spain or will she send me one to my home?

No Peter, as others have posted Camino will send you a SIM for you to activate. You can ask for a couple and then have one ready for your next trip too!

Popit has been great for me. Put it on hold few weeks ago. Did the same last year. Use it in uk for travelling to port and all was good

More info needed please. What is the cost per month, is it pay as you go etc.
Thank you

Peter - The Tiekom (Camino) SIM is still available. 400gb in Espana, 200gb when roaming in zone 1 outside of Spain. It’s a genuine data sim…
I can't see that deal on the Tiekom website, does it still exist? I only want a data sim. Cheers

This looks interesting, although pricing is not very obvious and it is a separate bit of hardware :

Peter, which SIM did you go for in the end? We are trying out IQ Mobile, which is ok.

The 'Best' SIM changes from month to month.
I always keep an eye on this table, which is updated every few months to show the 'best' SIM options at the moment.

At present the 'best' options seems to be Lobster, Popit and Smarty

That table is missing some very good options. Have a look at Hello IQ and Connect Plus.
