Not sure where to post this but 3 weeks ago my husband received a devastating diagnosis. After a week in hospital, multiple scans and a stent in his bile duct we were told he has an advanced tumour which is inoperable. Chemotherapy may Be an option but it’s still a bad prognosis.

We are handling it as best we can and taking care of the practical stuff (wills etc) but I can’t see us being able to get away this year.

So in the not too distant future the Autosleeper Aire we bought last year will be going.
My head is in a tizzy but I’m wondering what is the best way to sell it as I can’t cope with the worry of checking for genuine buyers. Looks like I will contact dealers when the time comes and trust they offer a fair price.

Has anyone else been in this situation and if so, how did you handle it?

Really sorry to hear of your husband’s diagnosis.
I entirely understand that you would want to sell with ease. I think in those circumstances I would return to the dealer you bought from and perhaps one other dealer and “compare and contrast”.
However, I would urge a note of caution about selling just yet. Do you drive the van? If you do maybe you would be able to both go out for days. I appreciate your husband may be too poorly to drive. There is plenty of wonderful countryside around Gtr Manchester, and just going to a car park in a scenic area might be a welcome change of scenery. And you have the facilities to make
a brew and snack with you. Just a thought.

So sorry to hear that news and wish you the best for the future. As said already Alan Kerr is well thought of on the forum and will make you an offer or sell it for you I would imagine. You could try on Fun or, as I did recently, sold mine on Autotrader whi filter callers through a special number so you don't get anyone knowing your number or address unless you pursue it through to viewings. Good luck.

My friend is just going through the same thing. Bile duct stent went in before Xmas and he is on his chemo now which according to the doc has slowed it down. Some was also found on the lung later (after initially saying they were clear) but doesnt seem to be a main concern.

It seems the stent operation..not eating and the mental toll is what knocked him down..he (since being told it seems to be working of a sorts ) has now perked up and seems a different person..but he has done the same as you..dotted all the is and crossed the tees.
Good luck it's still early days remember.

Motorhome depot do take the stress out of it but obviously want their cut. I've used them twice
You dont need to see any buyers if you don't want to their person takes care of it all.

Sorry to hear your devastating news and wishing you both well. Good advice above re Motorhome Depot, we've used them twice to sell and would recommend. You tell them how much you want to achieve and they add their commission on top. Any negotiations on price will then be mutual. They would certainly take much of the worry off your shoulders.
Also good advice to maybe take a little while before selling as you may be able to enjoy some days out with own facilities on board.

Thanks for that, it gives me a bit more hope. First stent didn’t work and jaundice returned but they put in a more robust metal stent on Wednesday.
Eating is a problem for him, like your friend, but the MacMillan nurses have been excellent and we have some supplements so fingers crossed we can build him up and The Christie will accept him for chemo.
He’s still taking the dog for a walk round the park, although it takes him a few hours to recover. He’s tough and fighting 💕

Exactly the same..they had problems even getting it in..had to go back a third time and the jaundice cleared after another 10 days or so.
16 weeks later and seeing some small but slightly more positive shoots..

I think motorhome depot is a really good idea. I think they charge a percentage so have an interest in getting a good price for it.
They have just sold my van as in avatar as I lost C1 service was brilliant the cost was £3000. Money was in my bank as soon as buyer signed on dotted line. Then purchased 3500kg van through them 2 days later, all very smooth and easy.

So sorry to hear your news. Sending you and your husband best wishes.
I think all good advice above, both keeping for a while if you are happy to drive it as you can have self-contained trips out, and the sales through Motorhome Depot or Simon-Alan Kerr who could at least give you an idea of fair value.

Can’t help you with the sale, it’s all good advice above, but I can send you heartfelt sympathy, support and best wishes on this terrible journey ❤️

Again I have used Motorhome Depot to both buy and sell and was pleased with the transactions. On the sale I agreed a fixed fee of 3k on a 65k plus sale.
I wish you and your husband all the very best

UPDATE.
sadly, just 2 short weeks after my first post in this thread my husband passed away in his sleep (15 March). Just 4 weeks after receiving the ‘terminal’ diagnosis And 6 weeks after first becoming ill.

The campervan is still sitting on my drive while I deal with the aftermath.

Although my initial thoughts were to sell it I’ve decided to hold fire for now. When things settle down I may feel able to try solo camping, even if just for a night or two. With my little dog for company I’m hoping I will be brave enough, especially if I stick to local campsites. If it doesn’t work out and I get too emotional then at least I tried.

Wont be for a week or so (funeral next week) but I will let you know if I decide to take the plunge. One thing that worries me is could I cope with raising and closing the (very heavy) pop-top. I’m sure someone must have worked out a way to make this easier so will be trawling through YouTube.

I feel for you Annie and hope.you can come through this soon.
Good idea to keep the van and give it a go...and rememeber there are lots of like minded people on here to help you along the way, including solo campers possibly gone through similar.

Good luck.

So sorry to hear your news. Condolences to your and family and I hope in time you will be able spend time in the van and remember the good things you enjoyed together.

Terribly sad news and we send our sincere condolences. I do hope that, in time, you’ll feel up to going away with your dog and draw strength from the friendship and support offered by all on this site.

I am really sorry to hear such sad news. You are of course absolutely right to not make any rushed decisions right now. Our deepest condolences for your loss

As for the pop top, I wonder whether an actuator could be fitted to fabricated mounts to replace the gas struts? Then it is simply a press of a button to raise or lower
