Hi we’re off touring to Portugal in a few weeks and fancy chilling at one site for a long stay. We’d like a friendly (maybe smallish) site walking distance from the sea reasonably near a town for supplies and days out.
Any recommendations?

Tavira Camperstop on the Eastern Algarve ticks your boxes.

It's about a mile to a very safe and quiet beach and the
town is about the same distance. There is a weekly, (or more than weekly)
market and Tavira has all the things you should require for a long stay.

Albufeira has a campsite, not been in the van but been past it many times when on holiday there, one of our favourite holiday towns, and there is everything you could need.

We are currently on Parque de Campismo on an island opposite Faro airport.

The site is a municipal site but directly opposite is a beautiful sandy beach. Very chilled here. A bit like a Caribbean island in a lot of respects.

Check out the reviews on Search for Sites..

PS There is a cycle track that takes you into Faro in about 20 minutes from the island.

Take a look at Camping Alvor between Portimao and Lagos. ACSI 2426 in current book.
Try their web site campingalvor.com/en

Camping Alvor. Cheap with the ACSI card. 10 minute walk to a lovely little town and another 10 minutes to nice sandy beaches.

Just one warning, beware of BreweryDave and his wife Jackie because they will lead you astray.

I don’t know much about the east Algarve ( or even if you want Algarve, or the west coast) but west Algarve is served by several sites, however they’re not all in a good location.
Albufeira camping is huge, but quite dear, lots of rules, and a long walk to town and beaches, better by cab or bike.
Armacao de Pera site is reasonable, close to town and beaches, bit a bit of a free for all camping wise, and the town isn’t much cop of an evening at this time of year.
Turiscampo near Lagos is a stunning site, but in the middle of nowhere, a few kms from Luz but I wouldn’t call it walkable. ( but then I’m a lazy so n so 🤣)
Most other sites and Aires are inland.
Camping Alvor is perfectly situated, which is why we settled there, buying a static on the residential part of the site. It’s not the best site in the world, but it has everything you need, and the staff are friendly and helpful, and there are 2 bars which do food, and a pool. The USP is its location, being right on the edge of town and beaches, the lagoon, the boardwalks, the estuary, and restaurants and bars for every budget from €1 pints and €12 menu do dia’s, to some very nice cocktail bars and up market restaurants where you’ll spend €30-50 per head, but for very nice food😉
………of course, I am totally biaised😜

Another vote for Camping Alvor it’s as Brewery Dave said , it’s perfect lol which is why we also purchased a static on the residential section …

Enjoy Portugal wherever you head to , the sun always seems to be shining with blue skies and friendly folk
