We’re going to Spain and Portugal for a few weeks in October and November with our dog. Brittany Ferries only had a dog friendly cabin available on the way down from Portsmouth to Santander so on our return we’re planning to travel up through France and use the tunnel.

Can anyone recommend the best way to use the tunnel. We’re not sure of the exact date we’ll arrive at Calais so should we just turn up at the tunnel sometime in November and buy a ticket or should we buy some sort of flexible ticket before we go (and if so which type is best)?

To complicate matters, we also have some Tesco vouchers we could use but I guess we’d couldn’t use them if we just turned up at Calais.

OK, thanks. That simplifies my decision making.

We tend to get to Neufchatel en Bray, (abt 100 miles from Eurotunnel) mid afternoon and once there, have a look at Eurotunnel for the following day for mid afternoon departure.

If there are no reasonable fares have a look for the later departures that day or the following day.

As a paper exercise, have a look at their website and try and quage the timeline that their exorbitant same day prices come down to normal.

I've never booked a flexible ticket but they are invariable more than twice the price of a standard!

Don't just turn up at the tunnel and buy a ticket, you will pay through the nose. Book in advance, even if its only an hour or two and you will be charged a lot less.

Ditto., this is the best way.

I suppose the dog has to be factored in for worming at the vets somewhere. Time for that is a day or three before departure so could be a good time to look/book

It's between 24 hours and 120 hours (1 and 5 days).

I don't think you can use Tesco vouchers for travel from France, ok from Folkestone, or booking a return, but not on a journey originating from France.
Correct, out only or out and back.

La Mailleraye Sur Seine is a good stopover, not too far from the channel ports, vets there charge @18 euros plus tablet, excellent Aire (paid) within walking distance. Appointments tend to be around 5 pm

Buchy vet is half that plus tablet.

Don’t forget P&O apparently has a dog lounge now on Dover Calais. As with others though, book in advance, NOT at port
