Since May 05 (Ex Tuggers).
I wasn't sure where to pop this question, but it seems to be the right place. ;)

I am looking to replace our Epson Inkjet DX7400 printer, and would ask those in the know, what could be considered the best cartridge free home printer?
I am currently looking at another Epson.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We have a Canon G3501. Wouldn’t recommend it - it’s slow and uses a lot more ink than their marketing of tank-based printers suggests. We also have an Epsom WF-4820 which is fantastic.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
We have the Epson ET 2711 eco tank and it’s been very good and also very cheap to run, this model may not be available now but the eco tank system saves a lot of money in printing costs.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
We bought one of these in 2016 and use it regularly and have yet to replace coloured inks and have only replaced some black ink (1/2 bottle) once.

Sorry it was a different Epson one - my mistake.
But an EcoTank model nonetheless, yes?

It looks very similar, so maybe the 2810 is just the next model up.

I have seen it here at £96.00 ...................

Hi Jock we have a Epsom air printer but use EBay comparable inks - very cheap about £20 for 4 full sets of ink

Yes definitely a tank one and has saved us loads of money and we use it a lot. Wouldn't go back to cartridges.

I've got a HP with instant ink. It's amazing how little ink they use and how reliable the printer becomes when the printer company is responsible for it.

Just had a look and it looks like the ET2811 has replaced the 2711, similar price at around £160 on Amazon, the £96 one looks dodgy to me.

I have been using an epson eco tank printer for a few years now. Much cheaper than constantly buying cartridges and wasting ink

considered one, but not being a heavy user and putting quality of print above cost , the cons outweighed the pros .. but it all depends on what use you are putting it to

worth a read before deciding Jock

Yes, I had that thought too Mike, so I asked the questions on their chat line. The answers were the same as those from other vendors, and the company is registered at Companies House.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We use Epson printer it does have cartridges but I buy the look alike ones.

They are much cheaper 😊

I am a low user and would always recommend a laser printer. No problem of ink cartridges drying up or blocking through lack of use. My first included cartridges lasted me 5 years plus.
We print a few pages per month. We were using more ink from the cleaning cycle every time it started up than we were from printing. But this magically isn't required when using HP Instant Ink. And no blockage or issues in the past 3 years. As I said, it's amazing what printer companies can do when wasted ink becomes their problem rather than something the consumer pays for.

I didn't get a colour laser because I wanted duplex printing and scanning. I couldn't find a colour laser that wasn't double the price of my HP Officejet Pro 9019, and far more per page.

That's what I've been doing for years.

We were using more ink from the cleaning cycle every time it started up than we were from printing.
And that's why I don't want to be doing it anymore. We are low users, so using more ink in the head cleaning process.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I’ve tried every which way, I now have given in a use HP instant ink
They monitor it and send me quality ink as required
£5 a month for a 100 and it rolls over.
No brainer as I find we do less and less printing, (lots of things now just go to the cloud in the form of files)

Before I used HP instant ink mine used to dry up but not since and at £2.99 a month works out way cheaper than buying cartridges.
I was a fan of Epson printers but with only occasional use, the printheads used to clog and then I used a lot of ink going through the cleaning process. With HP Instant Ink, I get sent new cartridges well before I'm out of ink, and each new cartridge also means a new printhead! I also get a warning from Alexa just before they run out!

And that's why I don't want to be doing it anymore. We are low users, so using more ink in the head cleaning process.
With Instant Ink, it very rarely needs to clean the head, even if it's been off for a couple of weeks. And even when it does, it's not costing you anything. If it wasted all it's ink cleaning, you'd just load the next cartridge they'd already sent you, and the next arrives in the post shortly after.

We're on the £2.99 per month plan. We rarely exceed the 50 page allocation. With my previous printer, I was spending £40 a year playing with third party carts.
