Hi Funsters

Quick question regarding connecting my Victron solar controller to the leisure battery. First time Solar install and after reading tons of information on here I am not 100% sure of the following, which one would you suggest: -

A) Direct connection to battery from controller? - Will use a fuse on the live side.
B) Use the Solar panel input as shown below? Option B is the easier option as I have found the spare connection in the boiler cupboard just under the Sargent EC200 /PSU2007 and no need for an additional fuse as one is on the leisure battery rated at 20 A

However I trust the wider knowledge of people on Fun to point me in the right direction. Any thoughts or suggestions great appreciated.

Thanks

Darren

I always go direct to Battery using a quality controller. However, for convenience another Funster will know about your particular electrical box.

This was my thoughts too, just wanted to gather some thoughts before i install tomorrow 😎

DJL220 The solar panel controller input shown is a direct connection to the leisure battery and may as well be used as it is the same as running another cable from the controller to the leisure battery.
If your controller is single output going just to the leisure battery you will need to add a Vanbitz battery master (or similar) if you want your starter battery to also to be charged from your solar panel .

Thanks for your reply, it would appear that me reading these forums for the last few years has paid off 😂

Look what arrived today 👍
Just need to track down the split relay in the morning.

You may find that the split charge relay is under the bonnet on the bulkhead , along with the fridge relay , near the starter battery (if a X244 series Fiat base)

That’s the first place i was going to check this morning - fingers crossed it will be easy to find 🤞

Simple things!
Had to remove the bars to get the panel on the roof. Will need to put these back on each end of the panel or remove the bars around the roof totally!
Anyone know if these are to hold a roof box or to hold the outer rails tight?
And before any mentions the colour of the roof, that’s what happens a few years after adding a rubber roof solution. I cleaned that 2 weeks ago 😳

Not sure if these are the relays, will get the multimeter out tomorrow and check properly. Couldn’t find anything else that looks like a fit out by swift.

Whenever I have fitted a Battery Master I have used both Leisure and starter battery connections at the control unit/box.

Thanks for that, I will dig out the wiring diagram tonight and have a look near to the controller as well.

Panel up on the roof and sealant setting nicely. Loads of preparation so hoping for a good bond.

Had a good look under the Sargent panel and it looks like I have found the wires I need for the battery master, as long as the wiring diagram is accurate. Will get the multimeter out to double check.

So solar and battery master installed and working (I think 😎).

After 4 days of being wired up this is the result on the panel - thoughts?
