Not a motorbike fan at all, but even I couldn't help but admire this beauty - a 1918 1000cc Type J Harley Davidson with sidecar, on display in a pizzeria in Mirebeau, near Poitiers.

I have to admit, even when I was into bikes (my last was a 650 Thunderbird) I could never see the attraction of a Harley?

The engine, on tickover seemed to be wanting to stall, and, although they might have been okay cruising along the long straight roads of the USA, hardly seemed compatible with narrow country lane of the UK. 🤔

Oh I loved riding it that lovely off beat V twin,I road it like CalRayborn at the match races but it was so bad the dealer was so useless I wrote to Harley US they offered to sort it and give us a Holiday in the states or replace but after all the heart ache and having had 46 bikes previously I gave up and had a k100+all the variations RT etc then GS I still love Harleys but can’t do with poor back up.

I bought my HD Road King Classic new in 2000 and it never let me down in 11 years of ownership, Pat and I travelled to Benidorm on it in 2002, 2003 Faro, 2004 Lauretta de Mar, and later we rode to France, Belgium Holland and Germany. When I part exchanged it for a new Triumph Rocket 3 2300cc the Harley still had it’s original battery fitted.

I now ride a 1976 Triumph Bonneville and a 2002 Triumph Thunderbird 900.

That's not the Norton Featherbed frame on the Bonneville though is it? 🤔
