camping and caravanning since a kid. New to motorhomes
Always fancied staying at Beadnell bay camping and caravan club site as it is at a fantastic location.
Well have just spent 3 nights there at last. Don’t know why we haven’t been before but there you go, it happens

Nice site and as we know a great relocation with an easy walk into Beadnell with its lovely harbour and beach along with a good watering hole in The Craster arms.

Weather has been very good ( almost tropical) and for you southerners, to us northerners that means above 10 C. Also unbelievably the sun also came out on Friday and Saturday.

Thing is we left with a few things bugging us.
Firstly, there are loads of wardens and I mean loads at least 6 who make themselves look being busy whilst doing things inefficiently.

The reception is only open 09:00-10:30 and 1600-1800. Why
They ask you don’t arrive before 13:00 and boy do they mean that, precisely.
We watched on Friday as they forced everyone who had the audacity to arrive early to line up. At exactly 13:00 all six wardens came out of reception. And I mean precisely, they must have been listening to the speaking clock to be that exact.
By which time there were 12 outfits who had been forced to queue up. Some for well over half an hour. Thing is for what purpose. Then 1 of the 6 checked in one outfit at a time while the other 5 stood around either their fingers up their a…
watching it all they made more work for themselves to what end?
To prove they are in charge ?
As that is what it seemed to Amount too.

When we checked in we noted they weren’t particularly chatty. Functional and polite but not friendly at all. We were at Moffat a few weeks ago and you couldn’t have had a more different and pleasant experience.

Then on Saturday we had the bloody ride on lawnmower around our area for over 4 hours. On and on and on. Certainly no peace and relaxation possible.

So lovely site but severely spoilt by what we both believed to be jobsworths who couldn’t organise themselves for the benefit of the campers and who spoilt the enjoyment.

We had the same at Sandringham CCC site - four units queuing at 12.50 then at PRECISELY 1.00pm out they all march to start dealing with us.

So if they tell people not to arrive before 1pm......why do people arrive before then 🤷‍♂️

Its the rules.....it dont matter if it's a campsite or a bus stop 🤦‍♂️
Would you turn up at a restaurant at 6 when you booked a table at 8 🤷‍♂️

People travel many miles, hundreds sometimes to get to a site, your tired and just want to get there.
It’s very hard to stick to timeframes at times and you just want to get there, hence why some arrive early and some late( Traffic jams, roadworks, tiredness, feeling under the weather).

Great site, we love it. Been going for 10 years. They are a little strict though

No but I would probably turn up at quarter to 8 wouldn’t you ?
And if the table is available would you not feel a little peeved if the maitre Dee had you stand at the entrance until precisely 20:00:00, like a naughty schoolboy ?

Also those that turned up at 13:05 now had to wait for 25 minutes until the backlog was cleared.

Also what if you leave somewhere at a time to get there for after 13:00 and for some weird miracle don’t encounter any traffic delays, know this is an unusually and rare concept in the U.K. but it does happen, so as a result you are arrive at 12:30. Most would expect to be booked in. Not watched over by those in charge who are watching the clock whilst keeping you waiting. Wrong attitude.

Weird isn’t it.
Yet when we’ve been to Moffat and Bellingham they are very friendly and can’t do enough for you.

Yes, maybe the restaurant reference was probably not my best choice because of the ease of being at the place but.....if you turn up early you can let them know you are there and go to the bar after which they will fetch you at the booked time or table free time

All of us drive with a clock, satnav, phone in our face all the time and we know when we are early, irrespective of any reason, and it is obviously a logistical nightmare for any warden to have 100 people turn up together at 1pm to book in but it's not their rules so why should they have to deal with people who turn up an hour early 🤷‍♂️

Would life not be easier and happier with a little flexibility ?

If they wardens were busy then there is justification.
But given how they all suddenly came out of the reception at precisely 13:00:00 Meant that they had to be there waiting and keeping everyone waiting. Why,

well because they can. It’s the traditional power and control mentality.

As they had needlessly kept everyone waiting they then Made more work for themselves by dealing with the backlog. When there was no need for it.

There were enough of them to stagger breaks to look after everyone.

On another point. When everyone has to have left by 12 and no one can arrive until 23. When is the best time to clean the toilets ?
Well they think it it’s the hour and a quarter before people have to leave. Most likely the exact time most of those leaving need it use the toilets.

They did have the disabled toilet that was available for use. But you got the key from reception. Oh that was closed at 10:30 I till 16:00.

See it regularly at Moffat... queuing at gate... over wee bridge and onto approach road.... which then gets blocked.
Really, am surprised by that as they were incredibly friendly.
So that then makes me think it is a club instruction to the wardens ?

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely 😳😳

Sorry did not mean to infer they were not polite or friendly.. just that they were sticklers for the opening time and often got queues waiting to get in.👍

That’s a tight approach really. All wrong mate.
It’s all meant to be a service industry.

I guess they have to stick to a time. If they let anyone in earlier then everyone would turn up earlier and earlier on the off chance they can get in then they would turn up before pitches were vacated.

Aye that’s probably true as people do tend to take the proverbial 😂

Same at Melrose. People get out vehicles and go into reception even if 2nd or 3rd in queue blocking the ones behind from movi ng forward to keep road clear. Been in a queue at Beadnell and thought it was quite efficient as everyone stayed in vehicles and no blocking of roads also warden let us pitch side on as had small vehicle.

CAMC apparently turn you away if you arrive before 1pm. No queuing beforehand allowed!

Been to Beadnell a few times and this was not my experience at all.
Lovely location but won’t stay again. A bit of rain and it is very greasy surface as well

Yep, both clubs rigorously enforce it. One reason is queueing traffic on to the main roads on a lot of sites And local council/police object. Clumber park is a good example

So if you arrive early and the previous occupier of your pitch is leaving late, what happens? Whose fault is that that you can’t get on your pitch?
When do the wardens get a lunch break, how about 12-1.00 because that is the time when they shouldn’t be needed because everyone has left and nobody should be arriving.
If the site arrival instructions say arrive after 1pm why would you arrive early. I once saw someone arrive at 8.00 ~AM and kicked off because they wouldn’t let him in because there were no available pitches.

Just a couple of my thoughts.

Simple really, they were finishing their lunch break. Surely everyone is entitled to a lunch break?

Don't see this is any different to continental sites being closed over the lunch period for a siesta, and there is loads of room to queue up, relax and make a coffee if you do arrive early.

The continental criteria of "is there a pitch available" is far more sensible.
You've not been to Germany then.
No movement of vehicles during quite times 12:00 to 15:00.

I am exaggerating a bit but not much:giggle:

Ah yes, I remember now. Just sat and had a sandwich until they finished their lunch. None of this CAMC 'push off for a drive round the countryside' though.

Cant see the problem.
We set off early to Keswick to beat the heavy snow forecasted a few weeks ago. Landed outside Keswick early. Had a breakfast still only 1000. Not allowed on until 1200. Quick phone call and come on down were not busy.
Not a club site a hasten to add.

I do find that at the club sites some staff work very hard to make you feel unwelcome! Control gives an animal a sense of empowerment.

Owned a holiday home in Beadnell until about 2010. Jeez, the place has been horribly overdeveloped in recent years.

Great beach, though.

We went to a site on ille de rey last year, had to sit in carpark for 2 hours while they had lunch, then allowed to check in at 2pm!
