Thinking of fitting an external gas point but the only suitable place would mean the bbq would be used under the awning ,is this okay ,do others use their bbq’s under the extended awning?

Ours is partially under the awning but we just use a longer hose to enable us to use it clear of the awning if necessary, depending on weather conditions and what is being nuked.

Surely ‘cooked to perfection‘ 🙂

It's what I said. "Nuked". No, seriously, cooked to perfection in the British BBQ style which is a sophisticated form of external carbonisation to protect the juicy tenderness (and essential rawness) of whatever is inside :)

Don't like gas, but I have had all types of traditional BBQs over the years, round ones on tripods, firepits built in to garden walls, French chiminés and a double one with shelves and stuff like a Wurlitzer organ.

However, my son, a chef, bought me one of these last year and it is without doubt the best BBQ I have ever used.

Ours is a table top, but there are plenty available with legs. Perfect for use under an awning.

I use a grill cage slightly larger than the BBQ, so the lid sits on that and allows air to flow in from beneath as well. Can't wait to get going again this year. Going to get another for the new van as well.

Anyone for ribs ?

No worse than using the gas hob inside your moho. There needs to be some limited ventilation but an awning won't be a problem. Charcoal BBQ should never be used in an enclosed awning

I suppose the definition of an awning comes into play here. I would have thought it dodgy to use any BBQ inside something that resembles a tent stuck on the side a van. I was thinking of an open sided canopy.

Just overhead cover for me ,just wanted to check the heat rising wouldn’t damage the material 👍

Been doing it for years without issue, I would be more careful if I was using a charcoal BBQ (due to sparks), but with a properly functioning gas system not a problem.

Edit: Drexxer do you remember that Bala meet when Jammy almost sent his new Bell Tent up in flames :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::LOL:

Cheers

My BBQ gas outlet is under the awning, and I find there's no problem with that, however, I do keep a fire extinguisher handy just in case, also a wet towel would blanket a flare up.
Stay safe, David.

Our BBQ point is under the awning, but we have fitted a longer hose on it so it clears the awning. More to stop the rising grease from attaching itself to the underside of the awning and it being a pig to clean off.

Same as ours, under the awning but a 3m hose then we can use it either way under the awning or depending the weather.

Errrm ... it usually is fine, but there was that time that duck fat dripped onto the bbq and a sheet of flame shot up into the air. As it happened, no damage done - except to our nerves! We use a 4m hose now.
